As a GM that lets the dice fall where they may and does not fudge dice, I agree heartily! Dice fudgers are cheats (whether they do it for or against the players) and if they hide it from/deny it to the players, liars. And I do not game with cheats and liars. #TTRPG

Man, just found out earlier today that GaryCon is this weekend AND that my Saturday game is cancelled. A negative two for one! I have always wanted to go to that one, even more than GenCon (which is too crowded for me). Be nice to play games in Lake Geneva where it all began all those years ago.

Still playing AD&D 1e here, it never stopped being a thing for my table. Characters die -- sometimes by random chance but mostly by bad decisions. Save or Die is a thing. Level drain still exists. If new players are bothered by that, 5e is that way (points to the door). We follow the old ways!

This. I do NOT want more than this as A DM, and will not provide more as a player. IMO, your backstory is written as you play, and finished when you retire the character or the character dies.
