A year ago tonight, I had my first ever patient code. And last night, in the exact same room as it happened last year, another patient coded. I am not superstitious usually, but that room is cursed and no one can convince me otherwise.

Anyone else having more and more problems getting AO3 to load these days?

It feels weird that January is over. It feels like it was about 10 months long. I’m gonna need February to be less chaotic and stressful and sad.

I think my period is about to start because everything is making me almost cry tonight. It doesn’t take as much as it usually does these days to make me feel like this though so who knows.

It’s going to be 50 F where I live today. This never happens in the winter, especially when I have a day off, so I am going to go for a long walk today to celebrate.

It’s going to be -8F and windy tomorrow when I go to work… that walk in from the parking structure is going to be brutal.

Normally, I am totally fine living on my own. I don’t mind it. I like the quiet. I like making my own decisions, but when I don’t feel good, all I want is someone to hold me and cook for me and just be around.

We were originally so overstaffed today people moved their hours to fill holes but when today came, we were so short, we were going to have to mandate… gotta love nursing right? Five busy patients all day long. Barely had time to think. I’m so ready to sleep. Also, 99% sure I’m getting sick.

Because chemo is teratogenic, pregnant nurses cannot hang it. Well, today, one of my coworkers casually walked up to me and goes “hey, I need a chemo buddy to hang all my chemo today because I can’t anymore. Can you do it for me?” And I have never been so excited to put on a chemo gown.

Yesterday, we had what was (unless some absolute miracle happens) my grandma’s last Christmas and my mom said we should turn off the football games during presents so everyone was paying attention and the way my grown ass uncle sighed makes me wonder why my aunt puts up with him.

This might be a little dark, but does anyone ever think Maya might have been 🤏🏻 close to walking away from everything right before this moment? Her friends who were really her only family hated her, she was “failing” at something she thought she would succeed at (1/?)

Currently have a patient who has us order him 4 slices of bread, 4 peanut butters, 4 jellies, and 4 mayos every day and then I proceed to make him PBJ and mayo sandwiches… I don’t even question it because at least he’s eating something other than mandarin oranges and blueberry muffins.

The apartment I live in is not that big, nor is it a complete disaster, but getting it clean before my family comes feels so overwhelming it’s wild. All I see when I look around is 20 things to do and I can’t just start and finish one thing.

Pro tip: when you are admitted to the hospital, please don’t start spouting your politics within 5 minutes of being there. I, as your nurse, do not want to know and it makes it easier to talk to you if you don’t. I will give you the same care regardless, but I just don’t need to know.

Got exactly 0 lunch breaks this weekend so that’s fun. Lol. We were so short staffed and I am exhausted.

Trying to come to terms with the fact that this will be the last Christmas with my grandma and also possibly the last one with my grandpa has really made this holiday season feel a lot less happy than it has in the past.

Meal prepping my lunches for work for the next three days knowing full well we have no HUC, I am charge, and I likely will not get a lunch break any day…

Currently 7 F outside (feels like -9). Regretting not getting the groceries I needed when I was out yesterday…

I really wish I could sleep from like 9 or 10 pm until 5 am and not wake up at in the middle and be awake for two hours.

My little bean decided about a year ago that Elsa was no longer her favorite princess and now it is Pocahontas. Has she seen the movie? Nope, but she loves her now. Only problem is, you can find almost nothing with Pocahontas anymore (for good reason in my opinion).

Was assigned a potential new extern to show around the unit yesterday. I took her in a room where the patient was getting his transplant (one of the coolest parts of our job) and then before I could even explain the whole thing, the code alarm goes off and a patient on our sister unit is coding.

Forced myself to get out of bed and go to the store today and as a reward I got lunch at a local pasta place. Now it’s 2 pm and I’m ready to crawl back into bed. Anytime this depression episode wants to end, I would be greatly appreciative.

Dealing with a truly exhausting episode of depression right now and there are so many things contributing to it and I just don’t know what to do. All I want to do is stay in bed and sleep all day.

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if I started living my life the way I wanted to instead of always making myself smaller to make other people happy…
