Gave a very-well-received talk last night on mass extinctions! I admit I was a little worried because the topic isn't exactly the most upbeat one, but I think I threw in enough humor. Thanks so much to the CFA and Voyager Wealth Advisors for inviting me to be a part of this season's lecture series!

Currently listening to the audiobook of _Katabasis_ by R.F. Kuang, narrated beautifully by Morag Sims with interludes by Will Watt. I love listening to audiobooks and learning from their narrators...but it's often hard to pay attention to the narration because I get so caught up in the story! 😅

Deep into the mastering process on my next audiobook: _Punktown_ by Jeffrey Thomas. I am in love with the stories in this book—enthralling and philosophical. Can't wait for this to be out in the wild!

Like many others I've seen posting across social media, I'm jumping ship from Firefox because of their move to become a wholly integrated AI app. Migrating everything over to @vivaldi.com presently.

Although retired from academia, I still do paleontological research. A talented graduate student & I have been trying to figure out what kind(s) of ligaments sauropod ("brontosaur") dinosaurs had to help support their long necks. The paper was just published in the journal _VAMP_!

Today's unpronounceable word for my mouth: gritted. I either emphasize the t's and sound like I over-enunciate things, or else it's "gridded." My mouth cannot seem to find a happy medium... 😅 #voiceover #audiobooks

One of my favorite quotes, and something I try to live by. Rather than letting errors or failures get to me, view them as lessons that teach you to not make those mistakes again. It's not easy in the face of impostor syndrome. There's another, more valuable perspective and approach to them!

A few weeks ago, my wife & I went to the supercross finals in SLC. It made me think about analogies with voiceover. Both: * require coaching, practice, & skill. * can be grueling. * require financial investment. * are rewarding. But don't try voiceover anywhere near motorcycle races...! #voiceover

In addition to being an actor, I'm also a paleontologist who has published many technical papers (most recently journals.library.ualberta.ca/vamp/index.p...). This background really has helped with non-fiction narration and knowing how to research material so I have a firm understanding of it.

Had a marketing meeting this morning with a non-profit for which I'm on the board. I was pretty darned proud of myself for understanding a lot of what was discussed, identifying problems, and even being able to use terms such as "ROI" correctly and relevantly! Quoth the Genie: "He can be taught!"

To test various mic placements for reducing plosives and the need to depend on processing to reduce them, I came up with eight test sentences and thought they might be helpful to other voice actors. Here they are for all interested parties!
