The countryside around Plivice is just as dramatic with far, far fewer people - the Korana Gorge runs aways from the Lakes and is an easy walk from Camp Korana, the main campsite in the area. And the natural history interest is far greater.

Plivice Lakes in Croatia is a stunning site but very, very crowded - even going at 8am on a weekday in low season involved a forest of selfie sticks. It's quieter in the upper sections away from the main falls but just as beautiful. May 2025.
