I'm doing my annual re-read of “The Fellowship of the Ring” and thinking it is a good thing that the movie adaptation skipped the chapters involving Tom Bombadil. I have never been a fan of the character and think you can remove him from the story, and it would not have changed the story much.

Time to start the annual traditional reading of The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien.
