My new kitchen has more accessible cupboards, as I pack my long tucked away fancy cornflower glass (thanks mom) - the jam jars, the butter and pickle dishes, the bonbon bowl… I’m thinking why the hell not use them? I’m gonna buy some bonbons.

Time to go! I’ll miss the hummers, especially the wee one that always sat on the same wee branch to rest and stand guard. Haven’t seen any for a couple days, took the feeder down for its last empty and clean for the season.

How can a person who’s been programmed to love by their religion be so easily programmed to hate by their politics? What shapes our thinking is complex, but if we could take away the cult-think of extremism we’d likely find the chasm between left and right is much narrower than it appears.

Not sure if it’s regional, but we always used up and down in conversations about travelling car-trip distances that loosely (coincidentally?) followed the compass. When I lived in the Valley with family on the South Shore, they came up and I went down. Within towns, you just came over. 🤔😊

Birthday lunch for husband, a perfect day for alfresco fish ‘n chips at one of our fav spots. Some lucky tourists later snagged our parking spot, asked if we were locals and if we knew of any good seafood restaurants in town? Uh, you’re in Lunenburg ma’am. 🙂🐟🦞

Prince. His parents live under the giant hosta with the fairies. In the hot, dry weather he cools off in the driveway gravel, a shady spot near the foundation. He discovered that the hose tap will give up a few drops of water when in use so he sits under it. Smart ‘lil toad. 🐸

When we visited family in St.Louis last year, my only request was to visit the Missouri Botanical Gardens. So beautiful and educational. The tram tour guide mentioned monarch migration, later I told her I was from Nova Scotia and that I plant swamp milkweed for the monarchs, and she hugged me.

Question for my home cooking peeps, any first-hand opinion on an induction range? Gas isn’t an option and I know about the pots, but the thought of fast boil and true simmer appeals to me (frustrating part of ceramic tops). Thanks! 🧑‍🍳

Happy 100th to Oscar Peterson. We had the awesome experience of being in NYC at Birdland for his 81st. Post-stroke, he needed a hand to the piano bench, but the magic of music lived on in his fingers to the delight of all of us in the audience. A master, an unforgettable night. 🎶

Took this photo late last evening with my phone and in many respects it looks beautiful, but both the glow in the sky and the breeze off the water had an unnatural quality, a warm heaviness you could feel on your skin and in your heart. We need rain.

Filled up the birdbaths, hummingbird feeder, a few clay pot bases for the bees and such, watered a few flowers - pollinators and pretties. Gave up on my paltry patch of string beans and the crunchy grass is mostly weeds. I don’t think our well will run dry but still being frugal with it.

Walking along my little nature path this morning like I do almost every day, got random stung on the ankle through my sock by (I think) a yellowjacket. Not allergic but it still pains, throws off the day a bit. I love most all creatures but not those sob’s. 😢🐝

It's kind of crazy to live in a part of the world where we can go to a beautiful sandy beach on a sunny June day and have the place mostly to ourselves. We don't take it or granted, very fortunate.
