In August I had the opportunity to tour Education First's International Language Campus and speak with young people from over 60 countries who are in Tarrytown to learn English. I applaud the courage and openness of these students in coming to the U.S. and meeting students from different cultures.

Last night I voted no on a partisan defense funding bill. I offered two common sense amendments that would limit the use of the military in New York unless the Governor requested assistance or if doing so would disrupt or influence an election. The Majority didn't allow them to receive a vote.

Today I hosted a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider to honor the Harlem Hellfighters. Their descendants received the Congressional Gold Medal this afternoon. 22 young men from Mount Vernon were Hellfighters and I'm very glad they received this long-overdue recognition.

I just signed the discharge petition to force a vote on releasing all of the Epstein files. What was released last night was either heavily redacted or already released to the public. We need full transparency now.

On Labor Day, we honor those who with hard work have built this nation. My father, a maintenance man, and my mother, a factory worker, were 2 such hard working Americans who labored and provided for their children and their community. They are my daily reminder of the value and respect for labor.
