Ice and water abstract from last weeks trip to Scaleber Force (in the Yorkshire Dales) I wonder if we will have another cold period this year to get as much ice?

Found a few Evarcha falcata jumping spiders today 🙂 One of my favourite jumping spider species You can see Skipwith common reflected in her eyes!

Garden safari 🙂 Lady bird on marsh marigold in the back garden Rachel put together a small pond in my back garden while I was working away and this is the 1st photograph from it! 43 image stack helps show the pollen!

Went out with the camera today looking for jumping spiders and found this downy jumping spider (1st jumper of the year) Took a while to get one actually looking at the camera so I could get the sun reflected in its eye 28 image handheld stack at around 3.5 times magnification

Going to give Blue Sky another go. Currently working in Northern Sweden producing a lot photographs of aurora and wildlife :) Any ideas on how to use Blue Sky welcome!

A shot I’ve wanted to get for many years happened tonight Polar stratospheric clouds backlit by a bright moon with a good aurora!!! Incredible to see in Abisko National Park. North Sweden :-)

Now I can say I rode a ice kicker over the frozen Baltic Sea 1km to an island and a shut cafe then 1km back 🙂 The 1km into the wind and hale in my eyes was quite something!

Just back in from a -23C landscape tour and had beautiful view of the waxing crescent moon over the mountains with those pastel colours you get in the polar night 🙂 Abisko

Wow seen the most colourful aurora I ever seen in 10 years of working in the Abisko area and just after 4 o’clock in the afternoon! Wild pinks, purples, yellows and greens over Lapporten!! Totally wild! 1/1/25 in Abisko!!

Jupiter and 3 of its moons with the aurora We had very strong auroras tonight so I set up my camera with a 600mm and 1.4 extender Found Jupiter and waited for a strong aurora to go between me and the planet!

Today I was mostly Bad Santa :-)

One from tonight’s work, out guiding 🙂 We had cold temps (-18C) and some stiff winds so it felt pretty tough. But the huge aurora we had at 18:30 made up for it The pinks and greens were very obvious to the eyes The tent is backlit by the moon

Was an amazing polar night sky this morning! Did a 5km looking for moose but nothing this today other than tracks… In Abisko National Park

Had a tip off from a friend about a female lesser spotted woodpecker visiting their garden and today I saw her 🙂 As we are now in the polar night it’s a challenge with the lack of light! Handholding 840mm and only getting 1/125 shutter speed! Taken in Abisko (North Sweden)

My fav of the recent spate of the rare polar stratospheric clouds we have been having up here in the North :-)

Today had a nice view of polar stratospheric clouds meeting regular clouds. With polar night sun just under the horizon adding colours to both Interesting how the sunlight causes very different impact to both cloud types!

From this mornings hike down to Torneträsk lake During the polar night I always think it’s good to get out during the part of the night when it’s most light even though there’s no sun!

Last sunrise today! Suns only up for 25mins and then polar night till the 6th of Jan 🙂 Although even then the sun doesn’t come over the mountains till the 3rd of Feb! Life 200km above the Arctic circle :-)

Was just picking up my guests tonight on the first winter private tour for their first night and it was looking pretty cloudy and snowy As I was just about to set off I had to get them all to jump out of the van and this what we saw outside the house!

The days here are short now! This is tomorrow’s sunrise and sunset times. Although the sun comes over the horizon it doesn’t come over the mountains. Not seen it in Abisko for over 2 weeks!

Just had a few days off in between so had some time skiing and mooching about with the camera :-)

We have so much snow here now (in Abisko National Park, N Sweden)! Just been for a hike. All the trees are bent over with the weight of the snow!

Did my usual sunrise hike this morning down to the river delta Spoiler alert sunrise was not visible! Sunrise was 9:25 today and it’s 9:30 tomorrow soon no sunrise…

Just out in the field here in Abisko Finally after 6 weeks of above freezing temps (200km north of the Arctic circle) we have cold temps and snow So of course I’m making the most of it :-)

Today I’ve mostly been hanging with the reindeers :-)

Joined Blue Sky yesterday and currently living and working 200km above the Arctic circle So my posts will be mainly Arctic wildlife and landscapes with the odd aurora image thrown in too Happy to answer any photographic questions :-)

My first post on Blue Sky; been on Twitter for years but now it feels like this there! Hopefully find a lot of my old friends from there and some new contacts PS my friend falling through the ice was fine :-)
