While clearing rubbish I happened upon an interesting looking, camouflaged, fast and tiny spider. I was surprised to learn I’d seen a Sand Running-Spider, Rhysodromus fallax, a Nationally Rare and Threatened Arachnid, found only at a few sites in coastal Norfolk and Wales @norfolknats.bsky.social

Today was largely spent clearing rubbish from East Hills. Some was the inevitable flotsam from fishing boats, but so much left by inconsiderate visitors - I don’t understand why people go to enjoy the beauty of a place only to leave all their rubbish for others to ‘enjoy’ (and clear up!).

An evening walk at Holkham produced my first flock of Pink-footed Geese for the autumn, but the surprising highlight was this stunning ‘Silver’ Hare near Meals House!

Locustella Warblers in Japan, easily heard but a particularly challenging group to see: Middendorf’s Grasshopper Warbler, Sakhalin Grasshopper Warbler and Styan’s Grasshopper Warbler. We also heard many Lanceolated Warblers but never saw even a feather! Read more at travellingbirder.blogspot.com

For any local Suffolk birders / Boyton watchers a flock of c30 European Goldies drifted north over the Black Stork with a ‘Lesser’ Golden Plover among them, c09:15. They dropped not far away but can’t relocate.

Stupidly left my camera in the car and forgot my phone adapter so forced to hand hold my iPhone15 on my amazing Kowa TSN55, so a bit lucky to get the Pacific Golden Plover in flight as it departed Warham Greens within 35 mins of finding it! Just arrived at Stiffkey Fen to check the falling tide and the Black crowned Night Heron (it flew west from Cley earlier) flies off the Fen and lands in the channel. I think it’s following me! #NorfolkBirding

Had to be quick off the mark to catch the Collared Pratincole at Cley NWT this morning. It appeared less pristine in comparison with images of the Frampton bird and also seemed to show an interesting and individual line across the left lores. #NorfolkBirding

A smart pair of Bar-headed Geese graced North Point this morning. Later a walk up Blakeney Point produced a Quail, flushed off the path, a Red-veined Darter & a Common Chiffchaff on the walk up and was rewarded with a skulky Iberian Chiffchaff in the Plantation found by @jamesrmccallum1.bsky.social

Spent a little time on Saturday playing with my new iPhone 15 pro max, ProCamera app and my awesome Kowa TSN99. This lovely Eurasian Spoonbill at Cley posed in front of Bishop’s Hide. #NorfolkBirding

This Black-tailed Godwit was colour-ringed as an adult female in 2002, L-YN//W is at least an incredible 24 years old. She’s been moulting and feeding up around Stiffkey Fen for the last couple of weeks ahead of (hopefully) another breeding season in Iceland #NorfolkBirding

The Glossy Ibis was briefly back at Stiffkey on 20th April before seemingly heading back to Cley and Salthouse. Superb in its bright summer plumage. #NorfolkBirding

Always a great day with a Hoopoe involved. Twice found this bird this morning. First it flew past me in the dunes at the west end of Holkham Pines and then re-appeared before me at Burnham Overy Dunes. #NorfolkBirding

Little Egrets are stunning especially in full breeding plumage. These two at Cley last week.

The stunning adult Glossy Ibis at Stiffkey Floods on 16th April compared to the (same?) bird a month earlier on 16th March. Various sightings of it and/or another at Cley over the last few weeks.

Very smart drake American Wigeon with its female Eurasian Wigeon mate at Kelling Water Meadows this evening gave great views. #NorfolkBirding

The huge Spring tides on Sunday caused the Pallid Harrier at Warham Greens to abandon her roost. She left the marsh at 19:30 heading SW and hasn’t returned. Interesting how the wing can change profile in a single flap, from pointed and falcon-like to broader and more like Hen Harrier #NorfolkBirding

Spent an hour watching an Eurasian Bittern hunting, a rare privilege. Incredible to see how it moved, its patience and its incredible camouflage in action. Such stealth easing through the vegetation barely moving a reed. And to contrast it with a Great White Egret’s more brazen approach. #UKBirding

Amazed to find a new group of Swedish-ringed Lesser White-fronted Geese glimpsed through the hedge as I drove along the A149 near Stiffkey yesterday pm. Now three groups of 7, 9 and 24 in North Norfolk! One ringed adult Green 8/White C, 4 unringed ads and 2 unringed juvs. #NorfolkBirding #UKBirding
