The Exifactory Demo is officially out. Way fewer bugs thanks to the testers particularly on the #Linux build. The game is part of Steam Next and the algorithm really matteres for #IndieGameDev so I would recommend checking and playing the demo early this week store.steampowered.com/app/3615720/...

Upside of using #bevy and open tooling is you can get your games to compile on non corporate approved architectures. I just got the #aarch64 and #RISCV builds running. If you have real RISC-V hardware and want to test let me know. Here is the game running natively on a Pine Book Pro. #GameDev

For people working in #rustlang / #rust If you are considering a CPU upgrade I strongly recommended NOT putting it off. The faster compile times are nice, but the increased responsiveness of the lsp/rust-analyze is GAME CHANGING. Before everything took a hundred ms. On my new CPU it’s all instant.

Lukewarm take. If you are running Linux on your desktop or laptop you might as well set the “mitigations=off” kernel parameter. You gain like 30% more performance on certain CPUs and the risk of one VM leaking data to another via branch prediction leaks or whatever is minimal.

Just set up a self hosted FreshRSS instance. I’m pleasantly shocked to find that in 2023 RSS is alive and kicking. It’s a nice change from more centralized (or even federated) media aggregation sites.

I can’t decide if I love Seafile or not. One one hand it’s the fastest file syncing program in the land. For many small files it’s literally 100x faster than Nextcloud. On the other hand I see weird programing choices and bad UI everywhere.

If you don’t support IPv6 on your services you say “I don’t care about the poorest users in the developing world who don’t have proper IPv4 endpoints”. You know you hate CGNAT, why force less fortunate people to use it? Saying no to IPv6 because you don’t want to learn it is some level of privilege

Hot take of the day. If you don’t support ipv6 on your services you are the problem. Don’t let a skill issue hold you back. Stop thinking with IPv4 style NAT and all of the “problems” will go away. Use a proper firewall like a sane person.

If you haven’t enabled zram on your systems you should. It’s basicly free ram. I’ve seen compression ratios of 250:1 and the latency is negligible.
