Farmer Pat McLoughlin highlighted the growing trend in illegal hare hunting this morning on Newstalk. Government must look at increasing penalties for offenders and establishing a specialised unit dedicated to combating wildlife crime.

There is a fossil in The Natural History Museum of a tiny shrew sized hedgehog that dates back 52 million years. Today hedgehog numbers are in decline. Lets see what the next four years bring as new governments both home and abroad begin their terms of office. Anyone hopeful?

Researchers in New Caledonia found that 86 bat species throughout the world are preyed upon by cats. About a fourth of these are listed as near threatened by the IUCN according to Bat Conservation International.
