In the spirit of making my life easier when moving to Linux (and improving audio quality), nabbed a FiiO K11 DAC to replace my SB AE-5. Really happy with the sound, and figured out how to rotate it between the other computers that I have too, thus improving their sound too! Win!

Booted up the PC yesterday to play some American Truck Sim. Realized that I was still parked in winter land and decided I wasn’t quite ready to leave there yet. Played something else instead. I could use about another month of a Christmas season. Wasn’t long enough this year.

Been meaning to update my pi-hole blocklist for a while now since it seemed to be blocking less and less. Per stats, was only blocking about 5% when it was previously in the 30% range somewhere. Added new lists and refreshed. Things load a lot quicker now and I'm in the mid 30%s now. Success!

About a year and a half ago, my job provided me with a Mac to work on instead of a PC. Up to that point, I'd had various Thinkpads and Latitudes for work. It has been the best laptop that I've ever used. It's small, light, and battery lasts two whole shifts easily.

Getting a new computer always reminds me how much I despise apps that set themselves to auto-launch on boot. :/

Also, Christmas shopping is FINALLY complete. Some people are just.. really difficult to shop for.

Back in July of last year, I upgraded my RAM to 64GB. I wasn't sure if I would ever realistically need that much RAM, but figured it wouldn't hurt. Now, with RAM prices as they are, I'm glad that I did. The same kit I bought is now on CLEARANCE for $70 more than I paid for it.

About a month ago, I purchased a used iPad Air from Facebook Marketplace. Mainly just wanted something to browse the internet, watch videos, and play some mobile games. It’s been nice, and it’s really been making me wonder if I should hang on to my laptop.

In other news, just read that @Spotify HiFi launched this week. Interesting. I’ll have to check it out. That was my biggest issue with Spotify — that their sound quality was noticeably worse than every other service.

Updated to iOS 26 today. Not sure if I’m sold on the whole “Liquid Glass” thing yet, but everything else seems decent so far. No issues after using the phone for a couple of hours.

Found a used Keychron Q5 Max on eBay for about half off, so I couldn't resist. Got the switches and key caps all transferred over this afternoon and typing on it right now. I appreciate the look -- very retro. Better than the black Also, it's a different typing experience over the V1 Max for sure!

Ordered this watch about a week ago and it finally arrived today. Love the design, but holy hell is it chonky! Big, thick.. It's probably about as heavy as my phone. No exaggeration. Sadly, returning it. As much as I love the look, I'd never wear it because of the size.

Got my Dasher-themed keycaps yesterday and got them installed. This theme is called “Dancer” because it’s the opposite of the official Dasher color scheme (darks/lights reversed). I think I like this theme better That being said, would look nicer on a white base. Coming soon.

When I ordered my first MT3-profile keycaps, they only had the base keyboard set in the color combination that I wanted. I ordered them, and a different-color numpad set hoping that one day the matching numpad set would become available.

Got Bazzite installed on the laptop last night and finished setting it up today! Running great so far! Glad that I made the switch! Still beyond happy with how it's running on the desktop PC too!

Busy computer day today. Nabbed a mini PC from MicroCenter and spent a couple hours getting that all setup.. then formatted the laptop and got Linux up and running. Still have some stuff to do there, but it’s started at least. Time for some sleep.

Tonight was one of those nights that made me thankful that I do daily backups of my Nextcloud server. Accidentally deleted about 1/3 of my files when I meant to delete a symbolic link. There is a recycle bin on the server but it missed about 10GB of files somewhere.

In other news, my CachyOS install broke on the.. second update. Since I determined that I no longer needed to run VMWare, I went back to Bazzite.. I'm too impatient to run a rolling distribution these days. I just want something that works.

For the last I don't know how long.. month? Two months? .. I've had an issue where my internet just.. either won't connect to certain sites randomly.. or it WILL connect and just stall completely.. or have a very slow connection.

New network adaptor makes a LOT bigger difference than I though it would.. wow. I guess being able to offload network stuff from the mainboard helps!

Ordered something from Amazon and it’s supposed to be delivered via the USPS today. I find that dubious because the USPS is supposed to be closed today because of the government holiday. 🤔 But even USPS’ site says it’s out for delivery so.. 🤷‍♂️ Let’s see.

Canceled my Apple Music subscription and went back to Tidal. I listen to music on my PC about half the time and the Apple Music app on PC is flaming garbage.

Finally gave in and ordered a PCIe NIC for my PC. While one built into the mainboard (Killer E3100G) works just fine under Windows, it has.. issues under Linux. Going back to an Intel NIC. Let's go!

Nabbed a 1TB SSD specifically for Linux on the main PC and decided to try CachyOS on it.. so far so good! It's really quick! .. and everything is running alright!

Finally arrived! Sold a couple of the watches I wasn’t wearing and picked this one up. Happy Father’s Day to me! This one has been on my list for a LONG time. Worth it!
