You cannot want more prescribed burns and full suppression on all wildfires. You cannot want better forest management practices and full suppression on all wildfires. You cannot want to keep wildland firefighters safe and and full suppression on all wildfires. These things are not possible.

To add some additional context, neither official Kerr County emergency Facebook page posted anything until at least 5:10 am on July 4th. By this point it’s likely that a number of fatalities had already occurred and was a full 4 hours after the first flash flood warnings had been issued.

Today is the 18 year anniversary of the Charleston Sofa Super Store Fire in which 9 firefighters became disoriented and trapped inside the store and died when the roof collapsed. It is the second deadliest structure fire for firefighters since 9/11 after the West Texas explosion in 2013.
