Ten years since David Bowie died today. Still feels strange to say it. His work hasn’t faded into nostalgia . It keeps unfolding, revealing new meanings with time. Bowie remains present: in the music, the ideas, and the permission he gave so many to be themselves.

As well as being David Bowie’s birthday, today marks 10 years since Blackstar. For me, it’s his magnum opus; impossible to compare with his other works. Often a hard listen, yet forward-looking: unresolved, abrasive, deeply beautiful. Bowie was pushing boundaries right to the end.

A very happy birthday to Guy Pratt, the last bass players to play live with David Bowie.

This new documentary is about to be shown on Channel 4 in the UK. I saw the film last week and posted a short reflection about it. I'd be really interested to know what everyone thinks if it. Please let me know in the comments.

I've just ordered two more compilations to go with these. What could they be?

Bowie: The Final Act is moving and accessible despite skimming Bowie’s ’90s innovations to fit a “resurrection” arc. Visconti, Garson, Gabrels & co. add weight, and the Blackstar finale delivers. Not perfect but powerful.

Film is on at one o'clock. I'll let you know what I think.

Generally positive @guardian review of Bowie: The Final Act. Not sure about the claim that the 90s/00s “weren’t Bowie’s golden years”. Many of us see Buddha, Outside, Earthling & Hours… as a creative renaissance after an unchallenging 80s. Still, it will be an interesting watch.

I'm very sad to hear that our friend Des Henly has passed away. Just weeks ago he called me, full of life. With his band Fumble, he toured the US with Bowie on the Ziggy Stardust tour and kindly shared Sean Mayes’s tour diary with us for issue 4. A lovely man. we’ll miss him. – Nick
