A rookery money box. I love watching crows. When we fired our wood kiln, there was a horse chestnut tree full of rooks and jackdaws, and they inspired these money boxes. I would model them on firing days. www.fitchandmcandrew.co.uk

Tonight was the private view of the Upland exhibition, Decade, in the Kirkcudbright Galleries. It's a beautiful exhibition of art and craft, and good to see our pots in the cabinet. I always feel terribly shy at these things and want to hide away in a corner, but lovely to see lots of friends there

Late night working again tonight. I've got a big order to do, and I'm avoiding it by making another big pot. I want to get better at this, so I'm going to keep practising. Curves and proportions are tricky. The order will have to wait until Monday

Lots of birdie stuff going on in the workshop at the moment, cuckoo whistles, moneyboxes, and pressed dishes, amongst other things. We have our photographer coming next week, so we're working long days to get things finished up ready for that.

Hannah @fitchandmcandrew.bsky.social and I delivered the big pots to Kirkcudbright Galleries this morning in readiness for the Upland: Decade exhibition. Each piece represents one of the four seasons in Galloway. I was never aware that there were more than two 😀

My hands (and belly) were on the telly last night in Scotland. They'll be on the telly in England in February. One thing that's apparent is that I haven't tidied up since June. A shot from the telly on the left and my wheel this evening on the right.

Here's @fitchandmcandrew.bsky.social Hannah, glazing the first of our recently-made set of four big pots for an exhibition in Kirkcudbright Galleries. It's in the kiln now. Fingers crossed for a good result.

We're still working on the big pots. All four are thrown now, and @fitchandmcandrew.bsky.social Hannah is getting them decorated so they can be drying over the next few days, ready for firing. Thank goodness that there's an elf here to help 🙂

Pippin and Fred went to @tescoofficial.bsky.social Castle Douglas tonight to spend the £1600 they have raised this year for our local food bank. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to their fundraising, and to the Tesco staff who were brilliant this evening.

Slipped

Finishing up Christmas orders. It's all a bit of a last-minute panic. Everything in our life always is. These are rookery money boxes, pre slipping. Hopefully, none will drop off their perches once they are rehydrated by the slip

This is a tall, slab built vase made by Hannah @fitchandmcandrew.bsky.social and a moneybox I made, topped with small birds and a cuckoo whistle, inspired by antique versions that were made in the country potteries of Britain for centuries

We've had Border News filming in the workshop today. Our two little ones, Pippin and Fred, make sgraffito decorated brooches, which they sell to raise funds for the local food bank. Last year, they raised £851. This year, they're on course to beat that total, bless them ❤️

Big jugs in progress

We had a visit today from Adrian from the amazing Northern Kilns. He fitted a new lid to the kiln that Hannah @fitchandmcandrew.bsky.social bought from them twenty years ago. It's been brilliant, and the new lid should last another twenty, even if I don't!

Hannah @fitchandmcandrew.bsky.social and I are thrilled, flattered, honoured, and overwhelmed to have had a piece each of our work purchased by the V&A for their permanent collection. They are currently on show in 'Studio Ceramics and the V&A' in the ceramics galleries.
