They were forced to use buckets as toilets and sleep on concrete floors while their adoptive parents lived comfortably inside the house just steps away.The couple, Jeanne Kay Whitefeather and Donald Lantz, moved the children from Minnesota to Washington state and eventually to West Virginia. Neighbors finally called police after witnessing the kids being locked inside the shed and never allowed into the home.When deputies arrived, they found exactly what those neighbors described. The children were confined in filthy conditions, stripped of basic humanity. The oldest daughter later testified that they were forced to stand for hours with their hands on their heads while being called racial slurs. She said Whitefeather refused to touch dishes the kids used, calling them dirty.This wasn’t just abuse. It was deliberate, targeted cruelty.Whitefeather was convicted of 19 counts including civil rights violations for targeting the children because of their race. Lantz was convicted on multiple counts including human trafficking, forced labor, and child neglect. Together, they face hundreds of years behind bars.
