It's almost done, next is sanding and details. Lots of sanding. I've got to get more sand.

Chipping away as best I can. The visor is essentially done and ready for details and a good sanding.

This wood is very beautiful. I'm thoroughly impressed. Still need to do work on the visor, its a bit uneven. I had to edit the photo a bit to highlight the two tones of this wood, it's much more obvious in person. I think I was lucky enough to have heartwood and sapwood in the one block.

It's been a little while. I've started progress again on the newest visor. I might highlight the crack with black epoxy. Two very close friends wanted to give carving a try, so I've been walking them through a beginner project. It'll take a while to finish, but I'll share what they've made too.

Went for a walk.

Behold! 56 minutes of slowly making woodchips, condensed to just under 2 minutes of very quickly making woodchips. Toward the end, I found a fairly large crack which spans about 3cm. Shockingly, this is less than optimal. I hope my wood glue is thin enough to go through a hypodermic needle.

Ready to start the visor. I've recorded almost the whole process this far. I'll see how fast I can speed it up. And then I'll look into getting a cute furry to dance in the corner. Hopefully I can condence 3 hours to less than 2 minutes in a way that doesn't trigger epilepsy.

Work has begun on the newest member of my little proot collection. I tried recording this tiny bit with my neolithic-era GoPro to see if it still works. Unsurprisingly, it's some of the most boring slop you'll ever watch. I'll have to sprinkle in a couple hours of paint drying to keep it interesting

I'm going to need a bigger saw. Just kidding, I'm very stubborn. This one block 120mm thick, that saw is best for 60mm. I'll just take a break at the halfway point and hope the saw doesn't notice it's the same block. Also, this saw is for dovetails. I don't support animal cruelty though.

A little green tree frog snuck into the rain gauge. It's got a cutie licence, so I can't evict it.

Didn't work :( I'll make a new one when I've got more scrap wood. But I'm fresh out of scrap wood. I want to try using a block of Queensland maple for my next project. It'll be the old bread and butter, a Protogen. Same shape as the Jarrah one because of its aerodynamic proportions.

The Celtic knot is done! This took way longer to make than I anticipated. I'll hang it from the rearview mirror... Maybe it'll balance out the roo bar and spotties. You won't be able to see it, but it'll be there.

Bush bashing through some scrub and stumbled across this little guy. It's Freshwater Crocodile. Their cousins, salt water crocs, are the ones to look out for. Freshies are mostly harmless, but they're still not to be messed with, even this juvenile.

After months of research, I can confidently conclude that watching scary videos while woodcarving is NOT a good idea. Further findings suggest I have the combined IQ of all known inhabitants of the Mariana trench (0), and will not learn from past mistakes.

Modified a precision blade into a little goblin shark chisel. It works and it's cheaper than buying specialist tools.

The epoxy is still curing, so I started this Celtic knot. It's a bit small. Very small. I don't have tools tiny enough to sand out the holes. I'm going to look for abrasive cord. My end goal is something I can hang off my rear view mirror. I'm in desperate need of a projectile for when I crash.

I've tried regular wood glue twice now, not enough surface area for it to stick properly. I've submerged the cracked part in epoxy resin. This should work a little better.

The heart pendant is done. I didn't have any nice cord laying around so I used my knitting yarn. They'll likely replace it with leather.

Finally got started on the pendant.

It's a bit unclear in the image, but the ring has a crack in it. I was expecting this to happen at some point. It's split along the end grain. I've enjoyed wearing it and I'll try to fix it.

A friend commissioned me to make a pendant for his partner. I'm officially 1 tinny richer.

The paw is done. Carved from N. Silky Oak and finished with Beeswax and polished with Carnauba wax. I am very happy with the results. #furryart #furry #paw #paws

I've been trying to photograph the paw for a while now, I can't figure out how to make it look 'good' through the photos. It's getting late and my phone's almost out of charge. I'll experiment with taking videos of it tomorrow. Until then, here is the best photo i managed to get.

Almost done, just have to sand everything to spec and finish. Also, new gloves. And new username.

Started cutting away the top of the paw. Starting to look decent.

A little experiment with some home made ebonising solution. The left was pre-treated with tea. Pros: It worked. Easy to apply and worked quickly. Cons: It smells like rust and vinegar. I don't know where to use this. It obscures the grain a little too much.

The beans have been carved. Lucky I had all those images for, you know... Reference.

The plastic cap on my precision knife gave up the ghost a while ago. This is a replacement cap made from Silky Oak. I must admit, it is a little oversized. I prefer things to be a bit thicker. There is no good way to word that sentence, I tried.

I've only just started carving the paw out. Left some material around the base and top to see if a wrist and claws would look half decent on it. Probably need more reference images.

I haven't seen any wood rings in person. Probably for good reason. I'll try wearing it for a few days but it'll likely become a gift. I don't think anyone I know has 21mm Ø fingers though... The finish is mineral oil, gotta wait for it to absorb before I can wear it.

Paw. The wood is N. Silky Oak. I'll have to get some more reference images. Reference being the key word. No other use, I swear. Please don't look into this... But if you happen to have any photos of paws, I'd be delighted to use them for (and I cannot stress this enough) reference images.

Last little update on the Photogrammetry stuff for now. This is by far the best scan I've got so far. Gotta get some black fabric to reduce the reflections. Also need to figure out how to capture the bottom of the carvings without the software spitting the dummy.

I've found some filters. I really hope this eliminates the nose dent.

After a fair bit of mucking around in Meshrooms, this is the best result I got. The massive dent in the nose is most likely due to reflections from my lighting setup. I'm going to get some polarising filters, one for the camera and a couple for the lights, which should eliminate the problem.

Fun fact: Mahogany darkens when exposed to UV light. It looks like the new proot is going to be sunbathing for a while.

Almost finished. I just need to add hair and do a final sand. The ears are based on Primagens, but I dont know if that means it's a Primagen or a Protogen. I'm just going to say that it's a Protogen.

I've begun work on the neck and top of the head. The visor is done and I am very happy with how it looks. It's wrapped in masking tape so I don't scratch it.

Starting to sand the proots visor. I think I made the slope to the muzzle too steep and too far back. It looks shiny because I've hit it with some isopropyl, just to see the grain. I had some difficulties reading the grain, it changes direction in the span of 1-2 millimetres. Very cheeky.

A feast for the ages.

A mate asked me to make a scabbard for his machete. The wood is reclaimed from an old stake I found in my garden, I'd guess its pressure treated pine. I've used 3-in-one multi-purpose oil as a lubricant... I mean finish. Woods just a really soft natural metal, right?

First step done. The mahogany is so much easier to cut through than Jarrah.

Here is my draft for the next Protogen. I want to try a new visor, and fancy ears. This is on a block of Mahogany.

The bunny is finished. Pay no attention to it flexing it's net worth in that 2nd image. It is mostly there for size reference. The wood is Jarrah, Beeswax finish, and Carnauba wax polish. The original concept and design is from the incredibly talanted Robert Jubb.

I got a little distracted while waiting for the eyes to set and I ended up preparing a new cut of wood for my next project. This cup was made from an offcut of that. It's not very useful as a cup, only 28mL volume. It's made of mahogany with a beeswax finish. It's only useful as an ornament.

Only slightly terrifying. I'm using epoxy to glue the eyes in place because my wood glue doesn't work well on plastics. I also patched up a few cracks on a spoon I've been working on with the excess epoxy. Apparently, epoxy sets harder in warm areas, so I'm putting it in my PC while I run VR.

Never look up at woodcicles. Only a slight error in drilling, this fix will hopefully be unnoticeable.

Beans. Sort of... Rabbits don't have toe pads. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I textured the hocks, I'll try to remove the chevrons, or at least tidy them up a bit during sanding.

I saw a technique in for adding eyes to a carving which involves a little inlaying. I don't have any Ebony, so I'll just use some black dyed epoxy. In terms of carving progress, I just need to fix up the tail, front legs, and the underside.
