Moss covered boulder at Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary in Lenox, MA. This is a 1,000 acre Mass Audubon Society facility well worth exploring.

Summer panorama at Pine Grove. This picture (a combination of four individual photos) is of a recently built Beaver dam and resulting pond. The the lower middle is a dam that was built of mud and sticks in a small gully. The pond area behind the dam is covers about 5-6 acres. All in just six months!

Mountain Laurel. In late May/early June, the Mountain Laurel bushes burst forth with beautiful while flowers. The land surrounding our house is filled with Mountain Laurel over several acres and it is quite spectacular. This is a closeup of an old branch on the path to the forest behind our house.

One of the many Pine trees at Pine Grove. This is a closeup of a very large old tree taken from some distance away with a telephoto lens. It gives you some sense of the density of an older tree that has just been left to grow. It towers above all the surrounding trees.

Spider web on Rail Trail bridge. Spiders seem to like putting webs in the rusted steel girders of the Rail Trail bridge. Amazing how they can do it with the constant wind.

Waterfall Reflections

Moon with Dead Tree. There's a swamp in a neighboring town that has a nice bike path alongside a large swamp here there's a section of trees that have been killed from their roots being submerged in the water. The Sun was setting and the Mood rising giving a nice glow to the bare tree.

Repurposed Shoes! I have no idea how or why these shoes turned up alongside a well travelled path on the old rewilding golf course I regularly walk in and photograph. They were there for a few weeks, then disappeared.

January Snow in the late afternoon. This is the meadow and woods behind our house. We do not clear the meadow for new grow till early Spring so that birds and other creatures can feed and have shelter over the Winter.

Cedar Waxwing This shot taken at the limits of my equipment and luck. The bird was way up at the top of a very tall tree and I was pretty fast away. I basically tried the capture just to see if it could be done. After much cropping and post processing, I think it's a barely acceptable photo.

Pine Grove Fall 2025 on a cloudy day. It's hard to believe but only a few yers ago you could still tell this was an approach to a golf course green just in front of the withered tree in the center.

Fall 2025 at Pine Grove. On a day when it all came together: the light, the clouds and the foliage. Stood for about five minutes waiting for the slowly drifting cloud to get in just the right position.

Rusty Arch. This is an arch on the bridge over the Connecticut River that is part of the "Rail Trail" taking you between North Hampton and Hadley. A great place for a walk or bike ride that goes on for several miles.

Purple Dahlia at Pie in the Sky Berry Farm is pick your own and it has several varieties of many crops including blueberries, veggies and dahlias. The farm is organic and supports habitat for pollinators and birds. A great place to go in Northampton, MA.

Snowy Owl in rehab. On a photography trip, I stopped in at the Vermont Institute for Natural Science which has a wild bird rehab center for injured birds (vinsweb.org/wild-bird-re...). I saw this guy and was struck by his beauty.
