Today, I joined Students Demand Action at the Statehouse as high school students across central Indiana walked out to demand action against gun violence. As someone who has lost a family member to gun violence, gun violence is not just a policy decision; it is personal.

“The most beautiful thing in life is to belong.” I appreciate the @IndyStar for remembering the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and for sharing stories about survivors, including my journey from loss and despair into public service.

My bill SB 317 (Medical Debt Relief) fell just short this past session (23–26), but I secured a summer study committee and will reintroduce it in 2026. Indiana’s health care system is broken — too many Hoosiers are crushed by medical debt while hospitals and collectors blame patients.

I fiercely oppose the proposed rate hike from AES Indiana, which would raise utility bills for families across Indianapolis by 13.5% I have called on the IN Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) to hold at least five public hearings so Hoosiers have the opportunity to voice their concerns directly.

I spoke directly to the Secretary of State regarding: his misuse of public funds (buying a tax payers funded luxury car), absence from a key budget meeting, questionable international travel, granting no-bid contracts, & patterns of nepotism in hiring /bonuses to related employee.

At today’s Medicaid Advisory Committee meeting, I expressed my support for increasing representation of self-advocates on the Beneficiary Advisory Council. Their lived experiences are critical to shaping better, more responsive health policy.

Another beautiful weekend canvassing in Senate Distrcit 30/Pike Township to update constituents about the outcomes of the 2025 legislative session & to learn more about their concerns and hopes for a better Indiana. Public service is my calling, & that’s why I will always place people over politics.

This afternoon, I kicked off my annual summer “Door to Door Community Conversations” in the Crooked Creek Neighborhood. I enjoyed meeting with residents to learn about issues that matter most to them. I firmly believe that elected officials work for their constituents, not the other way around.

I’m thrilled to share that Senate District 30 has received funding from the IndyMPO to build a bridge over the Monon Trail at 86th St. ($5.9 M) & the Nickel Plate Bridge over 82nd St. ($7 M)! These projects will greatly improve safety & connectivity for everyone who walks, bikes & enjoys the trails.

I was grateful to speak with members of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (Local 120) about the 2025 legislative session & my efforts to support creating/sustaining construction jobs in Indiana. It’s my commitment to advance for a policy agenda that protects working-class families.

It's 1:38 a.m. & we’ve officially wrapped up the 2025 session. I showed up every day, fought tirelessly with every ounce of energy for the people of IN — especially the most vulnerable. While we experienced both legislative victories & setbacks, my commitment to push for progress remains unshaken.

Today, I participated in the Conference Committee on HB 1001 (State Budget) and raised several concerns, mainly: 1. Transparency – I’m deeply concerned about the lack of clarity or public discussion regarding what changes the Republicans intend to make to the bill.

Today, I was honored to visit with Indy’s 911 dispatchers to recognize their heroic work during National 911 Telecommunications Appreciation week. When Hoosiers dial 911 seeking help during what could be the worst day of their lives, these public servants answer the call to assist and save lives.

In the Appropriations Committee, we debated the State Budget. Two significant amendments I proposed to the budget: 🩺Funds additional PathWay and Health and Wellness waiver slots 📚Fully funds curricular materials in the school funding formula & increases funding for public education by 3% each year

Several bills that could significantly impact Hoosiers: SB 10 🗳️ I opposed this bill because it will disenfranchise young student voters by removing the ability to use student IDs at the polls. This will only make it harder for the next generation to engage in our democracy. Every voice matters.

Today, we heard several bills that raise significant concerns for Indiana’s education and healthcare systems. HB 1002 📚 Removes the requirement for the Secretary of Education to reside in Indiana. 📚 Eliminates the social and emotional learning and assessments.

This Friday, at 7:30am, I was honored to join educators from Senate District 30 (Washington Township Schools) to share our message with the public: ✔️1 million students in traditional public schools deserve full funding by the General Assembly

In the Education Committee, I opposed House Bill 1002. I offered 3 amendments, which were voted down by the Rs: ✔️ Establishes a needs assessment before any new charter school can open in our communities. The over saturation of charter schools will further divert funding from traditional schools.

The Appropriations Committee met yesterday to hear Budget Presentations from the following: 🏛️Lieutenant Governor I raised concerns about his budget doubling. ⚖️Attorney General I urged the Attorney General to continue investigating and prosecuting cases involving negligent corporate landlords

Unfortunately, my medical debt relief bill, SB 317, was voted down in the Senate 26-23 (green votes are supporters of the bill). My bill would have protected the most vulnerable Hoosier patients in IN. I appreciate the bipartisan support I received from many of my colleagues despite the outcome.

Yesterday I filed several amendments to demand accountability and transparency from charter schools that are set to receive funding from property taxes under SB518. Today, I fiercely opposed SB 518, during final debates. This bill would divert critical funds from public schools to charter schools.

Today, we debated 3 controversial bills. SB 1 ❌Doesn’t provide immediate property tax relief to any Hoosier (2026 is the earliest) ❌Leaves 600,000 Hoosiers without property tax relief ❌Offers no revenue replacement mechanism for local public safety services ❌Reduces funding for public schools

Today, in the Senate Appropriations Committee, I voted against the amended SB 2, which aims to end Medicaid expansion (HIP 2.0). The amended bill: 🏥Purges close to 200,000 Hoosiers from Medicaid by placing a 500,000-member cap on enrollment.

Today in the Tax and Fiscal Committee, we heard several bills, including SB 1 and SB 518. The combined impact of these bills would result in at least $200 million in lost revenue for traditional public schools. While I strongly support property tax relief for Hoosiers—especially seniors,

Today my SB 317 was heard in Health & Provider Services committee. This bill would ensure that medical debt does not result in wage garnishment, property liens, or negative credit reports. Medical debt shouldn’t be a life sentence! I am committed to protecting Hoosiers’ health & financial wellbeing.
