today I was visited by both female hairy and downy woodpeckers. I don't really see the hairys too often. I'm glad I was able to get a few photos of them in similar poses on the same tree. (sorry for poor photo quality, pics taken through the window.) 🪶

it looks like my red-bellied woodpecker friend has a girlfriend now. she's very shy and won't come up to the deck for peanuts just yet. once it gets a little warmer I'll set up my tripod and try to get some pics of them together. here's a photo of my man Shrimpy from November. 🪶

My 2024 ends with one of the coolest (and scariest) things I’ve ever experienced: an adult Cooper’s hawk dove right over my head (there was a bird behind me). It tucked its wings and came towards me feet first from the sky. The WHOOOSH when it flew overhead is something I will never forget. Wow!
