I made a larger pot with green glass and tin glaze, with more green glass melted over the top. It didn't work as well as with the mini pot though #pottery

Two of the seaweed ash glazed bottles, along with the little pot. The crawling and bubbling of the glaze makes for an interesting effect, though I have other experiments planned to see if I can stop it doing that. #pottery

Mica from near Broken Hill for #mineralmonday It can be used as temper for low-fire clay, resulting in a sparkly surface.

Two pieces from the Strathnairn trench firing. The terracotta bowl came out well. The flute cracked and had a few bits flake off, it was made from reclaim and I hadn't wedged it well enough so it broke where there was different density clay. #pottery

This week's #mineralmonday post is talc. Boring, but useful.

Seaweed ash glaze on porcelain with brown bottle glass melted over the top. Interesting surface contrast. Will add either some copper or brown clay next time for a bit more colour. #pottery

Clay from White Cliffs NSW. The tiny pots are made from this clay, with wood ash glaze. The larger pot is Bonang clay with White Cliffs clay slipped over the top. This clay looks beautiful, but is a pain to work with. It shrinks a lot, has little plasticity and often cracks in the kiln. #pottery

Pink mini mugs. The one on the left has a floating glaze with tin and 5% green bottle glass. The pink isn't very dramatic, I might add a flux glaze with more green glass in it over the top next time. The other mug has manganese floating glaze over manganese pink stained porcelain. #pottery

Ash glazed minis made entirely from material collected in Bonang, Vic. The clay body is ordovician shale clay. The glaze was made from campfire ash with silty clay and granite from the Bonang river. #pottery

Obsidian melted at 1200C (cone 6). It seems to have partially crystalised.

Manganese glass melted over the top of manganese floating glaze, on clay with pink manganese stain. With rhodonite slab underneath. #pottery

Another seaweed ash glazed pot. This time with commercial feldspar and kaolin in the glaze. Might have been a bit too thick because it is very bubbly and crawling. #pottery

Seaweed ash glazed minis. Made from clay collected near Dalmeny, NSW. The glaze was made from seaweed ash, Tilba syenite and some of the same clay. Copper solution made from salvaged brass was sprayed on to the pots. The pigment on the dice was made from copper solution and seaweed ash. #pottery

Burning seaweed doesn't smell as bad as I feared it would.

Acrylic paint with sealant on piece of rock slab offcut. I thought the rock would work well as a bleak background to something.

Plaque on a big lump of syenite on Gulaga, just north of central Tilba. Alas, I'm not allowed to take any home, but I already have a little bit from an old collection.

Beach finds from yesterday. A bit of sea glass, along with bits of porcelain, brick and tile. And also the fittings from a sink that someone had thrown off the cliff.

I found a new glaze ingredient to experiment with. #pottery

Glass dots just out of the kiln. They are a mix of container glass, antique glass and old bead making rods. A few have a weird metallic sheen on them (I suspect is from the manganese in the purple glass) and the antique blue bottle glass seems to have crazed slightly on top.

Shale layers in the road cut near Gungahlin cemetery, Canberra.

Broken glass and pottery I found in Bonang that had been washed out after heavy rain. Some of the bottles had been melted.

Went looking for an old mine site, this was the road in. Will try again when it hasn't been raining.

Obsidian after the bisque fire. It didn't melt, but it did lose its gloss.
