If you follow figure skating, you probably already know this but these Japanese skaters are phenomenal. They finished 1st, 2nd, and 4th.

Alyssa Liu did great though and is in third.

Something happened with Amber Glenn and she doubled a jump that was supposed to be a triple. She is so upset. 😭

If you’re into ice skating, they are showing the women’s short program now on NBC.

I don’t go to Popeyes much throughout the year but the Popeyes at 3100 S Carrollton continues to be a model of efficiency on Mardi Gras day.

I’m going to need Rex to drop his skincare routine and dermatologist. He looks really good for 64.

I still can’t get over the meltdown that woman had. She was seriously about to throw hands. I found another spot near perfectly lovely, reasonable people. The one I will say is that she was clearly younger than me but her skin said otherwise. God don’t like ugly.

I don’t know why but Rex is at a standstill. The issue is a ways in front of us, as I can see a line of floats. I’m tapping out.

Rex is not the most exciting parade but it is beautiful. The theme is Rebirth and Renewal.

I walked down the parade route and found a shady spot by a tree. A woman from Ponchtoula told me that they’d been here since 6:30 and they “get this same tree every year.” The tree is on city property and I pay taxes here so I’m standing by this tree.

I had planned on going to Orpheus but I worked late (I could have left at 3 but I didn’t want to quit what I was doing) and now I don’t feel like it.

Today seems even more crowded than a typical Thoth / Bacchus Sunday. Honestly, you can’t beat this weather so I don’t blame people.

Also, people seem to think Muses is a super krewe (which means they should throw super krewe level stuff?). Muses has 1400 members. I thought Muses had less than 700 riders but I am seeing on the internet that it’s 875. Regardless, that’s not a super krewe.

I’m still seeing people complain about what they didn’t catch at Muses. “How do I explain that to my 9 year old?” Maybe explain to them that they should enjoy the parade? Or take them to a different day of parades if you/they want to bring home piles of plastic crap?

Krewes can’t win when it comes to throws unless they just throw a lot. I watched a woman look at one of those Grounds Krewe cocoa mix kits, decide she didn’t want it, and throw it on the ground. Why wouldn’t you see if someone else wanted it?

Based on all of the comments that I am seeing about Muses, people really do want a pile of beads, even they are recycled junk. This is wild to me. I caught some like that at Iris. I would have recycled them on the route if I saw the drop off.

I never put up my Carnival flowers this year but I got a new one at lunch so I put them all up.

I just went to the best Friday Gras lunch at Miss River. They had a menu but it was also a buffet. You could order as much as you wanted on the menu. The buffet had oysters, shrimp, an omelette station, bagel station, desserts (different from the desserts on the menu). For $75, this was a good deal.

Okay, this really grew on me throughout the day. The king cake part was a bit weird but it had red velvet cake baked into it and the icing was delicious. It’s really stretching the definition of king cake. If you wanted it for Valentine’s Day or if red velvet is your favorite, this might be for you.
