Last year, the D11 School Board dissolved our teachers’ union contract, which had been in place since 1968. Since then, hundreds of experienced teachers have left the district. I was proud to stand with educators yesterday as they stood up for better schools for students and educators alike.

In 2023, I spearheaded a new policy in Colorado: portable tenant screening reports. When you apply for a rental, you generally need to pay a screening fee, one per adult, to check your credit and screen for things like criminal records, bankruptcies, and evictions. 1/8

I was horrified to learn that ICE is operating “hold rooms” across Colorado, including here in Colorado Springs. ICE should be abolished, and enforcement limited to only what’s necessary for public safety. This system is rooted in racism and xenophobia, harming our diverse community.

Earlier this year, I said no to a campaign contribution for the first time. Some PACs who offered money have funding sources that I don’t want to associate with, like fossil fuels or private prisons. $450 of small donations from ordinary people matters much more. Donate $5/10/25 to fuel our win!

Heartbreaking to hear that shots were fired at UCCS Monday. Students shouldn’t have to fear gun violence in the place where they learn and live. A bill we passed in 2024 prohibits firearms in sensitive spaces, such as public universities, though this policy does not take effect at UCCS until June.
