This afternoon we started the 2nd act of Delta Green's Impossible Landscapes and this was the most incredible, and insane, session of any TTRPG I've ever experienced. There was a confrontation in a restaurant that escalated into a gunfight that spilled out into the streets.

I think the idea here is that gnomes build in an incoherent way, but I'm trying to imagine the experience for my players, and it seen like a mess. Unless you climb up the cliffs, you don't meet the questgivers until you're near the end, after overcoming several obstacles, and then have to backtack?

Prepwork for running ttrpgs sure takes a toll. Like reading a textbook ahead of an exam, and probably the exam will focus on the part I studied the least. (I know a lot of newer systems try to take this toll off DMs by relying more on random tables, but I'm running a prewritten adventure.)

At the pub last night, talked with an immigrant from Denmark. Topic came up about how our home countries might be at war soon. Just stupid and evil.

Had lunch with some fellow immigrants, which is like the cultural equivalent of touching grass.

Not easy to do meaningful screencaps of Disco Elysium, but both of these moments were big moods.

Completed my playthrough of Avowed. Really liked how the ending worked. The big choices had big consequences, which was nice. Next up, another attempt at Disco Elysium?

Trying to explain Avowed to someone who doesn't play games or care about fantasy: "so, like, there's this island filled with magical wildlife, and all of these factions are trying to settle or colonize it. So it's, like, a meditation on coexistence... but also you hit giant spiders with clubs."

Dreamed I got a "9 games in 1 box" video game. I looked at the back cover of the box to see what they were. 4 were Spore and its sequels. Another was a local multiplayer adaptation of an improv comedy show hosted by Jim Cary called "What the Bull-". Wish I could remember the others.

I love how the cities in Avowed are built to encourage climbing all over them. It reminds me of the joy I felt first exploring Balmora in Morrowind, but this feels more intentionally encouraged and rewarded

Went to the bookshop seeking a recommendation to get out of my current reading rut, and, judging by this first book, the bookshop keeper knew exactly what I needed this first book is Barley Patch by Gerald Murnane, and it simultaneously has a playful irony while also being sentimental and endearing

Lock-and-key patterns aren't inherently fun or interesting. They're useful patterns to create structure, but they can quickly become chores. I think they work best when the locks are created by an antagonist as acts of opposition to the player. Then the pattern serves character development.

Avowed is pretty! Been a while since I played this kind of RPG... kind of like a first person KotOR?

Is literary fiction supposed to awaken primeval spirits and open a portal to eldritch realms? Is this art?
