What excellent boiled potatoes.
I read a blog post from Grace Atwood about evolving style (she’s a millennial) and one of her Gen Z assistants was helping her adopt more new silhouettes. In the process, she said, “I think your generation (millennials) is really focused on looking smaller, when mine is not.” CLOCKED 😫

Say what you will about Biden, but I would bet every last dime in my bank account that he and Jill have already reached out to Caroline Kennedy and her family to make themselves available for anything.

In normal democracy terms, we've in bad shape and things are getting worse. In consolidated authoritarianism terms, we're doing pretty well, as the regime is haphazard, meeting resistance, and growing increasingly unpopular. Depends on one's perspective. I started using the latter standard in Jan.

Trump, who won Nevada by 3 points in 2024, is now underwater in his approval in the state by 15 points, per the new Emerson College poll. Trump has a 20-point net negative rating on his handling of the economy, and he has a net disapproval of 12 points for his handling immigration.

Seeing a lot of folks who either don’t know what the usual numbers look like or who didn’t go look at the demographics and methodology and are treating this as a _meh_ data point when anything close to this would be earth-shaking. Believe it when you see it, etc, but these are GOP extinction numbers

What we're seeing with Republicans turning on Trump is in no way a repudiation of Trumpism and the Republican white nationalist project, but instead the effect of these people realizing the regime failed to consolidate power as promised and Trump is physically deteriorating in public view.

I cannot overemphasize that Marjorie Taylor Greene, Carlson, and Fuentes see a 2028 path to victory that involves building an isolationist populist coalition that traffics heavily in antisemitism and exploits existing negative sentiment against Israel. We have to be SHARP on the left right now.

a big runoff last night, in New Orleans: Calvin Duncan was exonerated after spending *28 years* in prison; he tried to get his own case records from the New Orleans city clerk—but the office dragged its feet. So Duncan ran to become city clerk himself, and yesterday ousted the incumbent.

I mean the reason the NYT has taken the tack it has with Epstein is because people involves with the paper were directly involved and they want to go back to those days.

My mistake has been trying to explain what "fascism" is to people who don't care what it is. So I'm going to try something else. Let's do this as a practical thought exercise. If America *were* fascist *today* - what would you have to do differently in your daily life? /1

I think the most shocking revelation from the emails for me was that Bill Clinton didn’t actually go to the island. Also that Epstein himself confirmed that.

I can't even fathom what January will look like, except probably very bad for the Trump regime. Absent a major black swan event, I don't see a path to power consolidation for them at this point. For a number of reasons, not just Epstein. (Thread)

So Christmas is coming up and retail jewelry prices are up at least 20% across the board, everywhere from the start of the year. This is because the price of gold has skyrocketed due to all the uncertainty in markets (more than doubled in 3 years), and tariffs.

Here's a thread from a while back illustrating a dynamic that historian Jefferson Cowie has called "racialized anti-statism." The anti-statist feelings are very real...but the "principles" they rest upon are illiberal in that they are not universally applied to all.
