I’m pretty! I’m cool! I dominate this school!
If I Had Legs I’d Kick You is probably my favorite movie of the year so far. It takes such deep understanding of the human condition to make a movie that is this unrelentingly dreadful and stressful and anxiety-inducing and infuriating. 10/10. Met and passed my hyped expectations.

Just saw After the Hunt. I get why people are meh on this (it’s bloated, meandering, random annoying soundtrack, lots of thesaurus dialogue that’s trying to be intelligent for the sake of being intelligent, skin deep on a fair amount of its commentary) (1/2)

Just finished reading I Who Have Never Known Men and I’m feeling a little crazy. What a disturbing but great read on survival vs. living and what makes a person a person.

Believe the hype with One Battle After Another. A fabulous movie in so many ways—music and sound, cinematography, humor, characters, themes, performances, wit. It crackles with something special. 10/10

Just finished Bring the House Down by Charlotte Runcie. This one took me a while because I didn’t love it lol. It has some good moments and the main hook of the plot is solid, but unfortunately the protagonist was kind of boring and dragged the story down whenever it started to gain speed.

Wanted to see HIM for myself and yeah, I can understand why this movie is getting bad reviews. The first act is a good setup with interesting sound design and some clever moments but after that it devolves into… (1/2)

Twinless was a very solid 8.5/10 for me, maybe a 9. Funny, pulled you in, made you squirm and made you care about the story.

Wrapped up the weekend by finishing The Rachel Incident by Caroline O’Donoghue, a funny and witty coming of age that made me feel like I was living in the year 2010. Also, reading always cures my Sunday scaries without fail.

The Conjuring: Last Rites was mehhhhh. Not terrible but pretty bland scares and so many constant drawn-out sequences of Lorraine having a psychic vision, like I get it you see demons. 5/10.

Lurker is not a perfect movie (it didn’t know how to wrap together its third act) but I thought it was very very good. The obsessive, anxious energy of it all, its commentary on what makes a good friend and not just a butt kisser

Just finished reading Open Wide by Jessica Gross. Thought this was going to be a grounded literary dive into obsession and it ended up making me feel insane in a very impressive way. What a trippy read.

Just caught the Shin Godzilla 4K re-release, that was a great way to make a Monday night fun. A very politically-oriented approach to telling a Godzilla story.

Weapons is my first 5 star, 10/10 movie for 2025. Scary, hilarious, great camerawork, amazing pacing, and an ending that goes there. There was a moment about 65% in where I thought the writing was gonna fall apart but it ended up tying together well. Cregger is such a talent! Go see it!

Just finished Among Friends by Hal Ebbott. The whole thing is pretty much dripping with observational wisdom and has some great thoughts on resentment but it’s also a little overdone and pretentious lol.

Just finished reading Wanting by Claire Jia and it is easily in my top books for 2025 so far. It has so many great thoughts on ambition and competition and not knowing what you want in life that I wouldn’t know where to start listing them lol. A true 9/10 book that deserves to be read.

Eddington was a looooot. Darkly, darkly hilarious at times, beautifully stressful most of the time, politically confronting (stole that term from a spoiler-free review I saw this week lol). Feels a little disjointed with a meh tone shift and an ending that dragged, but still an 8/10.

Just finished reading Little Rot by Akwaeke Emezi, what a spiraling, dark, disturbing, unflinching book. It does try a little hard to be heavy, but still manages to pull you into its sordidness. Book number 32 of 2025!

Superman is an awesome return to form for comic book movies. Colorful, genuinely funny (and not just in the corny quip way, though there is some of that), quirky, and over the top in the right way.

Megan 2.0, how do I put this? Objectively this is not a great movie lol. The ethical commentary on AI is laughably surface-level, its understanding of the international political system is very naive, and the pacing kind of stretches on and on at the end. (1/2)

Saw Elio to distract myself from a potential full-blown war in the Middle East and ended up very impressed by a story about the importance of international cooperation and the need to choose peace over war. A really refreshing original script from Pixar that deserves to be seen in theaters.
