My dad’s birthday is always bittersweet. I was off my game this morning, and though that’s probably in large the baby sleep deprivation, Jen said let’s just go get lunch at the pizza place you know your dad would love. 💕

My family was rooting for my daughter to be born on my late dad's bday. Me? I thought it'd be nice for them to have their own days. She arrived just past midnight the day after my dad's bday. I knew I'd like this kid. 4 years later, I love & like her more & more each day.

I reached out to the musician my dad loved who inspired our son’s name. Not only did he remember my dad—who died 16+ years ago— but he shared all his correspondence he had with him & had the kindest words about him. I hope I live the kind of life where people remember me that fondly years later.

My dad & I figured out "Now that We Found Love" by Heavy D & the Boyz on the keyboard together when I was a kid. Listened to that album w/ him a lot. When Heavy D died not too long after my dad had, I remember thinking I couldn't talk about it w/ the one person who'd get why it hit me hard.

Incredible day at the Museum of International Folk Art screening a film on resilience in Española! The day included discussion of a youth diversion project Jen has collaborated w/, seeing some of the 1st youth who’ve finished the program, & art pieces from incarcerated individuals.

New Mexico is overriding the federal government on the topic of COVID19 vaccines to ensure their residents can access them. States hold a tremendous amount of public health power. They should use it.

Perfectly cooked patty topped w/ blue corn chile relleno, green chiles, pepper jack, queso, guacamole, bacon, fried onion, chipotle mayo. Second Street Brewery in Santa Fe. Honestly one of the best burgers I’ve had in a long time!

Gotta remember to make this more often. I usually have all the ingredients around, it's pretty straightforward & forgiving, & it's a big hit w/ the family (incl. the 3 y/o).

A vital part of our forensic psych postdoc is, by working directly w/ the state on policy, our postdocs see the system they work in while acknowledging it doesn't have to be that way. I think about this a lot when people say this work is objective & apolitical.

New semester starting tomorrow and genuinely SO excited to be teaching our graduate regression course again. In lieu of even more prep I spent the weekend hiking and ballooning. And it was amazing. Work-life balance. With emphasis on life. Weekends are for balloons!

How much can change in 6 months: When told we could hire a 3rd & 4th postdoc, I continually brought up we’d be the US’s largest board-approved forensic psych postdoc (# of postdocs) AND the smallest (fewest supervisors). Come September, our available clinical supervisors jump from 1 (me) to 5!
