I don't understand the point of concept artists "using AI the same way they use photos". Why have an AI generate an image of something that may very well be inaccurate and base your concept art on that rather than just searching for photos on what you're looking for?

Besides which he is literally damaging his own ability to understand and communicate in English every time he does this. Instead of thinking or engaging when he writes he is lazy/sloppy because he trusts the machine will polish shit for him. He's atrophying his own linguistic ability.

The way I know that a lot of people don't actually care about the use of gen AI in art is that Clair Obscur used gen AI for placeholder assets and the game is still being lauded. Like Rebekah said, either the placeholder matters or it doesn't. Using gen AI for placeholder assets isn't excusable

so the ai comes up with the “concept” part of concept art, and THEN the world class artists photobash and paint over the concept that nobody could be fucked to conceptualize.

I remember when Gen AI started to explode ans everyone who worked on BG3 voiced how strongly against it they were. I remember hearing actors talking about their bad experiences encountering AI stuff in the wild. To now read Sven happily say that Larian is using it feels SO gut punching.
