As I returned home to NW Ohio last weekend, I found soul searching among people I represent, following tragedies in Colorado and Utah. Then, in the Point Place neighborhood of Toledo, I saw a sign that read “Love Always Heals, Hate Always Harms, All Welcome Sunday.” Simple words, but profound.

Standing up for working families, seniors, and small businesses by protecting access to affordable healthcare, and vital programs including Medicare and Medicaid. Those who would gut them will cause millions of Americans to lose coverage. We must reverse cruel GOP cuts to care.

We refuse to stand idly by as this administration, with the stroke of a pen, takes away good-paying union jobs from workers. We took over the House floor to call out Trump’s anti-jobs agenda and stand with workers✊

The GOP cut the ACA, and Medicaid, and Medicare by more than $1 Trillion to give tax breaks to Billionaires causing insurance rates to skyrocket to a 15 year high. Now on top of that, House Appropriations Republicans are trying to cut vital health funds even deeper. Is there no shame?!?!

In 2022, nearly 7 million seniors in America were food insecure. In Ohio alone 130,000 households will lose $96 a month in SNAP benefits because of the Big Ugly Bill. That's $1,100+ a year ripped away from those struggling to get by, including seniors who rely on Social Security to make ends meet.

Reckless tariffs and tax policies continue to wreak havoc in the Great Lakes region where our largest trading partner is Canada. This causes chaos, drives up costs, closes plant, causes strikes, layoffs, and leads to massive job loss. Since January, America has lost 78,000 manufacturing jobs alone.

Household electric bills are up 10% nationally since January, and in some places energy prices have more than doubled. Just ask anybody who lives in northern Ohio! This GOP Energy & Water bill retreats from US Continental and global leadership, while Communist China invests record levels in energy.

Today marks 80 years since the Japanese surrendered to the Allies in the Pacific, and formally ended WWII. I have long championed the cause to uplift the Greatest Generation who I call the most unselfish generation. They preserved Liberty for generations and deserve our deepest gratitude.

On #InternationalOverdoseAwarenessDay we take action to address overdose deaths. This year during Overdose Awareness Week I want to uplift the efforts of Sandusky County Public Health whose work cut Opioid deaths in half. There’s a long way to go—but together we are helping to address this epidemic.

Surrounded by hundreds of strong women from across NW Ohio, we celebrated our 10th Annual Women’s Equality Day. Working together we are building a better future for generations of girls growing up in our hardworking region.

Spent the afternoon standing with United Steelworkers and Machinists Union on strike at Libbey Glass in Toledo. They deserve a contract that ensures safe working conditions, retirement security, and dignity on the job. As we approach Labor Day it’s time for management to come back to the table.
