The President and the State of Ohio are cold hearted in refusing to act while more than 1.4 Million Ohioans struggle without food benefits. A $25 Million bandaid won’t help cover a $264 Million hole. Billionaires get enormous tax breaks. Ohioans can’t even get scraps. It’s cruel.

The ACA has changed lives and expanded care to many who had been left out in the cold. I will not stop fighting to help feed our neighbors, turn SNAP benefits back on, and to make sure that those tens of millions of Americans most in need of health care can afford it. This is a life and death issue.

Last Congress Kevin McCarthy was removed and the chair of Speaker was vacated. This year Speaker Johnson removed the entire Chamber for 48 days and the chair of the Speaker was vacationed. House Democrats are ready to meet to find the Big Middle and reopen government when he is.

Grocery prices keep going up, childcare and rent are unaffordable, and health insurance rates are about to skyrocket. This is just one of many NW Ohio constituents I am fighting for every single day. We must do everything within our power to bring costs down for those just trying to make ends meet.

On my way back to Washington. Hopefully we’ll be able to find compromise this week, and make sure that the other side of the aisle calls us back to work. The American people expect a whole lot from their members of Congress, and it’s time to settle this impasse which is harming the American people.

We are a nation of laws. I share the President’s desire to get government open again, and I’m ready to negotiate to ensure millions don’t lose health coverage, but the shutdown does not give him the authority to shut off food assistance to millions of working Americans. Court orders must be obeyed.

The House hasn’t been in session for more than a month and now Speaker Johnson and Leader Thune say that it is a “waste of time” to vote on legislation to ensure SNAP food assistance reaches more than 42 million nationwide including over 185,000 in NW Ohio next month. The time to act is now!

As the Republican led government shutdown continues, President Trump and the USDA are making the problem worse for those most in need of food assistance. If the GOP does not act, federal food assistance benefits will expire on November 1st. Over 42 Million Americans rely on SNAP as a vital lifeline.

A senior couple earning $82,800 a year could face a 236% increase in their premiums. A family of four earning $64,000 a year could face a 226% increase in their premiums. People will lose their health insurance, or It will become unaffordable. This is a life and death issue in Ohio.

Why is Speaker Johnson refusing to call the House back in to session to pay our troops, and negotiate a solution to save healthcare and open government? This military spouse is not alone, and we need to act to help her and all those we represent. The clock is ticking Mr. Speaker.
