picnic sophia's hand are a blur. her shrieks can be heard from the other side of the river bank where an old fisherman looks slightly annoyed, yet the wasp does not stop. the strawberry juice that covers her lips consume its senses a slow line is cast yet the trout watches fallen fruit

the ritual days pass slowly, the dustbin creaks under the weight of it. my hands age from washing interminable cutlery. the house is quiet now. children dream of gifts, maybe the adults too. through a crack in the curtain i watch the world dawn breaks into mist a robin's song stirs the silence
