Fountain pen of the day: A nice entry model of the Swiss brand Caran d’Ache, this is the Dunas. A resin piece with a print that makes it look like carbon fiber. Lightweight and comfortable with a good steel nib. It came in a corrugated cardboard box and a little suede case. It’s now discontinued.

Fountain pen of the day: From American brand Monteverde, this is the Impressa, an interesting design… until the mistakes appear. I have bought some pens from this brands, and when there aren’t QC issues, there are flaws. In this case, if you twist the cap, the nib splits. Very disappointing.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) From an extinct German brand, this is the Elysee Parthenon, in black Chinese lacquer and gold. This model was very luxurious, with a two toned nib in gold and platinum, with a very original shape.

Fountain pen of the day: Another of those “British designed, made in China” pens that appears from time to time in internet, the Scriveiner Classic, a pen in brass with chrome trims. It’s a competent model, in the level of a Jinhao or a Kaijelu, but not much more.

Fountain pen of the day: A curious model from Italian designer brand Pininfarina, this is the Grafeex, a slender and ridiculously long pen. It’s a more economical option than their PF models, with a Schmidt nib. Bold looking, but not very practical.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) From the ‘50s, this is the Staedler Mars, a little piston filler piece. It’s a nice design, comfortable and smooth. This one was hard to research. Also, a testament to the conditions of the time, that allowed Germans to make this pieces so soon after the war.

Fountain pen of the day: A design that has become popular with Caran d’Ache, the 849. This has the hexagonal shape, used in many designs of the brand. It’s a more economical model, and is good, but not much else. Some people have commented that it degrades quickly, but mine still looks good.

Fountain pen of the day: This is one of those “British” pens that are evidently made in China: a Dryden. It’s a cheap design in brass with blue and gold. It’s a good enough pen, at a reasonable price, but not very much else. I wonder why there are such brands, like Scribeiner or Ellington…

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) One of my favorite pens from Sheaffer, this the Sentinel Deluxe 1500, in green striped celluloid and a steel cap with gold trims. It’s a vacuum filler from 1947. It has the classic Lifetime triumph nib, very smooth. A pleasure to see and use.

Fountain pen of the day: This is the Ducati Writing Machine, an odd model that exemplifies how Italian brands are sometimes lost in the design, harming practicality. The nib is smooth, but the pen is cumbersome, with the majority of the weight in the cap. Also, the design doesn’t aligns.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) From 1976 this is the Sheaffer Stylist 727, a gold plated model with a triumph style nib. It’s a good looking pen, but I’ve seen some sloppy made pieces with bad quality nibs and finishes. Mine is good, but not as good as more classic models.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) A classic piece from an extinct German brand, this is the Elysee Parthenon, in the Trajan Rouge model, from 1992. This has an interesting pattern in red Chinese lacquer and a very smooth two tone 18k gold nib. Overall it’s a very luxurious pen.

Fountain pen of the day: From my Ranga pen collection, this is my 9b, a big brushed ebonite pen. This has a Schmidt nib and is smooth and lightweight. A pleasure to write with, from this artisanal Indian brand.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) A Parker 61, their Insignia model, from 1970. This version uses an aerometric filling system, instead of the capillary from the older models. It’s a very good pen, in plated gold and red resin. With the same nib as in their 51 model. A little feedback but smooth.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) From 1997, this is the Cross Signature, a 22k gold plated pen with a smooth 18k nib. This pen caused many problems for the company, since it was selling at a loss, for the materials and quality used. Anyway, it’s a great, luxurious model.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) A humble Esterbrook model J, from 1948. These pens were work horses for students and workers, with lots of different steel nibs. This one is a relatively smooth 1555. It has a lever filler that holds a good amount of ink and is very lightweight and resistant.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) An Aurora Hastil, from 1970. This is a curious model, a prized design that later was licensed to Montblanc, before it became the luxury brand that is now. The pen is comfortable to use with a good 14k gold nib, and an interesting design.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) Another fancy one, from 1989, is this S. T. Dupont Montparnasse, a fine lacquered pen, with a very particular system to access the converter, with a little knob at the end of the body, in the same style as their lighters. The pen has a smooth nib.

A two for one fountain pen of the day: I thought about doing a comparison between 1940’s and 2026’s Eversharp Skyline pens. I would say that, overall, the newer model is better. The description is in the caption:

Fountain pen of the day (vintage): A rare piece, this is the Caran d’Ache Ecridor Les Satines, a 1989 pen in brass and lacquer, instead of the silver colored and engraved metals that the Swiss brand sells today. It has a good steel nib.

Fountain pen of the day: A great piece from Chinese manufacturer Hongdian, this is the A7, a pen made in stabilized wood, a process that uses natural wood that has been treated with a special resin under vacuum and pressure, to make it harder and more resistant to use. It has a good steel nib.

Fount pen of the day: (vintage) This is both vintage and fancy, from 1980, the Must de Cartier Trinity, by the French luxury brand. It has a very smooth 18k gold nib and an interesting design.

Fountain pen of the day: A curious brand from Türkiye, this is the Scrikss Noble 35L, a brass lacquered, gold plated pen. It looks good, but it’s just a functional model. The nib is also gold plated steel with a little feedback. I would compare the quality to Jinhao.

Fountain pen of the day: (Vintage) From 1999, this is a collaboration between the British brand Dunhill and Pilot, the AD 2000, a nice shimmery black and silver (now tarnished) model. It’s quite smooth, even if the Pilot converter leaves a little to be desired.

Fountain pen of the day: A nice Lamy LX, the Marron version. It’s a hyped version of the Al Star, with supposedly a better nib, but, apart from the nice color, the nib and the case, there isn’t a real difference between both models. It’s a good looking and smooth design, anyway.

Fountain pen of the day: The Nahvalur Horizon, in the shimmery Solar version. This is a solid pen, with bright acrylic and a brass piston filling system, that makes the pen heavy. The nib is smooth and the colors and design are very enjoyable.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) A Waterman Watermina, from 1975. This is a long and slim piece, with a very smooth 18k gold nib. It’s a nice model, made for women, with a great nib.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) From 1976 this is a very fancy pen, the Riviere Galaxy, made with sterling silver and gold, with a curious white gold 18k nib. It was difficult to find information about this model. Even it could be the most expensive that I have. Hard nib, but smooth.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) From 1975, this the Sheaffer Imperial Triumph 777, a gold filled pen with the classic inlaid nib. It’s quite smooth and I found it at a flea market for the equivalent of $20 USD. My only issue is that, being left handed, the body unscrews while writing.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) From the old days of 1999, this is from the British brand Dunhill their model AD2000, a pen made in collaboration with Pilot, a shimmery green and gold pen, with a Pilot made nib. It’s smooth and original.

Fountain pen of the day: A very beautiful model from Wancher, this is a Dream pen in Maki-e, that combines gold sheets with some urushi drawings, in the shape of a dragon in the sky. The need is gold plated steel with ebonite. Enjoy.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) From 1964, this is a Parker 75, the Silver Cicele, a luxury model made in sterling silver and gold. It also has a gold nib with the option of rotating it on its section, for more comfortable use. Very smooth nib, a little heavier because of the materials.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) From 1990, this is a Sheaffer Imperial Triumph Chrome, an economical version of their famous inlaid nibs, in burgundy resin and chrome. It’s also a shorter version. Overall it’s a nice piece, with a steel nib of good quality. I like the color scheme.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) From 1948, this is a British Waterman 502, a lever filler celluloid pen, with a smooth 14k gold nib. It’s a well preserved piece, in an art deco style, that works great.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) From 1940, this is a Sheaffer Crest Deluxe, a vacuum filler pen in translucent resin and a gold filled cap. It has their beautiful triumph nib. This was recently restored and works great. The nib is very smooth and is a pleasure to use.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) From 1950 this is the Parker 51 aerometric, a more simple filling system with a pump integrated converter. It’s a good pen, with a gold nib that have a little feedback. It’s overall a good pen, that it’s relatively easy to find at a good price.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) From 1970, this is the Imperial, with a touchdown filling system that uses a negative pressure to fill the pen. It’s a gorgeous piece with the classic inlaid nib, recently resurrected with the new Legacy. I’m happy with this one, with a gold nib and half the price

Fountain pen of the day: From Swiss manufacturer Caran d’Ache, this is one of their classic models, the Ecridor, in their Maya version, it’s a brass pen rhodium plated (that’s what they say). It’s a slim, hexagonal pen with a decent steel nib.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) From 1960, this is a curious one. The Parker 45 Classic. It was a more affordable-workhorse pen, with a hooded nib. This pen in particular was bought at an old shop and was made by combining two pens of two different colors, and that shows. Good overall quality.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) This the Sheaffer Connaissseaur, from 1989. This is the deluxe version of their No-nonsense pen, with a very smooth 18k gold nib. It’s an homage to their Flat Top model. The pen s made of lightweight resin. It’s a relatively big pen, comfortable to use.

Fountain pen of the day: A very fancy model, this is the Visconti Homo Sapiens Bronze Age. This was one of the early models, with a piston filler instead of the vacuum filler and a 23k palladium dreamtouch nib. Fortunately, the nib works well and this pen’s hype is justified.

Fountain Pen of the day: (Vintage) This is a 1936 Sheaffer Balance lever filler fountain pen, in red and black celluloid. It has the classic two tone Lifetime 14k gold nib, and works nicely.

Fountain pen of the day: (both vintage and fancy) A little jewel that I was looking for, this is an early ‘70s Montblanc 149. This was seldomly used (even has the original decal with the nib size!). It’s a very smooth piece, made with great quality, and at a reasonable price.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) From Parker, this is the 1978 model 50 Falcon, in steel. This was a second try at a pen with an integrated section and nib, after an attempt with a titanium nib. It was brittle and very costly. This one is smooth and good looking, with a great nib.

Fountain pen of the day: This is a fancy one, the S. T. Dupont Olympio, in the Palladium and rubber model. It has a good 18k gold nib and a nice combination of textures, with the brushed metal and the soft rubber. It’s a smooth writer.

Fountain pen of the day: From Nahvalur, this is the Key West Pride 2024 fountain pen, a white shimmery pen with an anodized multicolored nib and clip. It’s has a smooth nib and a comfortable shape. It also was sold for a good cause and looks nice, so I got it.

Fountain pen of the day: From Parker, this is their Urban model, a metallic fountain pen in a bright fuchsia with a decent nib. It’s a competent design, but nothing much else. As with other models, it can’t even compare with vintage Parker…

Fountain pen of the day: A fancy model, this is the Visconti Opera Master, from 2005. This is a solid resin pen, with a beautiful and smooth 18k two toned gold nib. I found it second hand, in a great price, but without the fancy box and ink. Beautiful and reliable piece.

Fountain pen of the day: (Vintage) This is the classic Parker Duofold, the international version from 1989. It was made in the UK after the Duofold Century, a revival of the 1930’s famous design. It’s a nice pen, homage to the big red line. Beautiful nib and smooth writer.
