Last month I visited my godmother, who lives nesr Lake Constance. My cousin took me for a short hike, so I was able to stretch my limbs after the long train ride. Mere hours after those fotos were taken, fool's spring ended and winter sent a reminder that it's too early to discard the warm jackets.

For our marriage anniverary, husband and I treated ourselves to a weekend in a hot springs ressort. In between soaking in the hot water pools and sauna sessions, I squeezed in a walk in the lowland forest along the river Mur (Murska), which marks the border to Slovenia in this area. #walking #hiking

When I came home from church today, I had to defrost for half an hour, before I was able to start cooking. ... they are wondrring, why not more people attend mass. It's too fucking cold at church, that's why.

Today the foggy weather is back. While it is objectively warmer than it's been for the past 3 weeks, due to the humidity in the air, being outside is much more unpleasant. I've run some errands an visited the cemetery before noon, but couldn't be arsed to go outside again in the afternoon. #lazy

As an evil cold has me in it's clutches, I only walked my usual short evening loop, which I normally don't talk about, because it's only 4,5km and is mostly a road walk. But, as it snowed last Friday and I thought the views were pretty, I snapped a few pictures. #walking #january #austria

Last hike of 2025. We haven't seen the sky at all since the beginning of December, due to the valley (or rather the whole area) being covered by a thick blanket of fog. Rumour has it, above the fog the sky is blue, the sun is shining and at night the moon and the stars are twinkling.

That's going to take a while. But hopefully I'm going to be asleep in my bed on the couchette train 🛌🚄

November and December usually are the months full of doom and gloom, the valley covered by a blanket of fog, cool air trapped under the fog as the sun can't penetrate the fog to warm the air. But not just yet. The sun is still able to dispel the fog by mid-morning, and is able to warm up the air.

Note to self: next time I volunteer to be the person at the rear end of a large-ish hiking group, I better be prepared not getting any hiking done, because the person at the rear end is most likely the one that has to turn around and take care of too slow or injured group members.

Today daughter and I participated in a sports event in one of the most beautiful areas my home state has to offer. My daughter ran the quarter marathon, and I nordic walked the same distance. #kaerntenlaeuft #woerthersee #carinthia #running #walking

On the third day of our vacation we took a cable car up the #Ankogel which brought us straight into the clouds. As the area up there is rather steep and rocky, and we didn't know the trail, we only did a short hike to a tomb 100m above the endpoint of the cable car. #hiking

On the second day we took Europe's longest subterranous funicular to the Hochwurten artificial lake at 2235 m above sea level. From there we hiked along the slopes of skiing ressort up to the remnants of a glacier at app. 2800m, and took a cable car, and again the funicular to get back. #hiking

Husband and I spent three days in the Hohe Tauern National Park region. On our first day we hiked through the Ragga gorge. Just a short hike, but with breathtaking views. #hiking #Austria #Carinthia

I participated in a running event as a Nordic Walker today. I finished as the second female walker, and fifth overall. Props to my nephew, who finished his first half-marathon today.

I forgot to post some pictures from my last hike. I hiked with a friend and her dog up to the refuge in the last picture. No summit was conquered on this hike, as my hiking companion has some problems with one leg, and can't hike long distances. The border to Slovenia runs along the mountain ridge.

I participated in my first ever sports event today: a pink ribbon charity run, in which I competed as a Nordic Walker. I finished in 9th place overall, and as the fifth in my age group. So I absolutely fulfilled my goal, which was to make it into the top ten.

It's the year 2025, and people (men) in my department just stated that women are a huge risk in projects, because they could get pregnant. After 2 hours trying to dismantle this argument with a a fellow (female) colleague (talking to a wall would have been more fruitful) I have no words left.

Anyway, on Tuesday I joined a group of pilgrims for a spiritual walk in preparation for Easter. It felt good to be walking and to simply "be", without time constraints or appointments, for one day

I just wanted to skeet something about an angry reaction I had about something very minor, and realized mid-typing, just how insignificant this is. I am enraged about many things, but can't do anything about them, because they are happening in other countries. This was just one contributing droplet

This weekend I'm on the road again, for entirely different reasons. An uncle is severely ill and in hospital, and I'm taking the night train, so I can visit him.

I spent last weekend in Friuli, a Region in Northern Italy, with friends. Two days full with laughter, singing, good food an wine, living my best life.

Husband and I are both knackered from doing yard work yesterday. But we need to troop on today as well. Getting as much as possible done, before we have to return to the office tomorrow.

First day of gardening this spring. Three of my hydrangeas didn't survive the unusually dry winter, and I had to dig them out. Will replant the sedums in that plot - they need less water.

I finally managed to take husband to hot springs ressort for a prolonged weekend. We are both desperately in need of some relaxing days, as work has been insane for many weeks with no indication of it getting any better in the foreseeable future.

And this morning my shins from the downhill 😅

The loop is rather steep in parts of the ascend, and I'm feeling my gutes today.

This afternoon the weather was sunny, temperatures slightly above freezing point and no wind chill. So I put on my hiking boots and walked a loop up the foothills. Have picture of the view and the trash I collected along the way 🙄

I forgot to show you a pic from the first hike of the year. It was more of a Sunday morning walk covering app. 300 m of altitude. As you can see, our winter is weird. It's rather cold, but next to no precipitation for weeks, and so we have no snow.

Today's post is inspired by pork-roast. Sadly, not the healthiest of dishes, but oh so delicious. And frought with memories. Pork-roast was dad's specialty. I have vivid memories of him chopping garlic and mixing it with spices to create the paste with which the meat is rubbed and marinated.

Went on a short walk with husband today, as the weather was nice and he really needs some excercise. But...I really felt held back by him; both in walking speed and length of the walk.

Back to work after the holidays, and husband ans I both started to get sniffly in the morning. It must be that we're both allergic to work, don't you agree?

Today's planned hike was thwarted by a mountain street unexpectedly covered with snow and ice. I mean, we barely have had snow at all these past weeks, so excuse my astonishment when suddenly the street was covered in frozen snow. I didn't have snow chains in my trunk, so I had to turn around.

Grocery haul for the holidays: done. And now I'm tired. But there are quite a few chores left to be done 😩 All I want to do is some knitting while listening to a good podcast. Is this too much to ask?

Oh the joy of having a whole week off! Bliss! I really needed a short break from work. It's been rather intense since summer, what with my old Padawan jumping ship (he moved to Vienna to study technical mathematics), and having to start anew in educating a brand new Padawan while working for two...

2024, it's less than two weeks to go. Can you please not rob me of an other uncle this year?

Today was the first time my daughter and I did some outdoorsport together since she was a teen. She got into running recently, and has participated in some running events since summer.

I have to spend 6 hours in a car with a colleage, whose head I've metaphorically off at least three times in the past 4 weeks, becaus he's trying to weasel out of doing his part of the job. I fully expect to be "accidentally" left behind at a gas station.
