15 February 1942: 2/Lt R.J. Buel departed Darwin in a P-40E to intercept a Japanese H6K 'Mavis' over the Timor Sea. Both aircraft were shot down. Buel remains MIA and is commemorated on the Tablets of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery.

21 November 1943: LAC Hector Richard Hore of No. 20 Squadron, RAAF, was killed when USAAF C-47 41-18648 "Star Duster" broke up in mid-air and crashed near Monto, Queensland. Hore had previously served with the AIF in Singapore. He is now buried at the Bundaberg General Cemetery.
