In the wintertime in the #PNW we switch from bright white large cruise ships to dull gray cruise ships. The gray ship blends nicely with the weather. Thanks to all who serve on the CVN 68 (Nimitz) for keeping our country safe.

After a week of atmospheric rivers we finally have a sun break and a rainbow.

Sometimes you get pinks and oranges and sometimes you get gray and silver.

My hydrologic large scale rain gauge is now pretty much full after the rains of November and December. I can’t wait to see how much it rises after the next three days of rain.

The atmospheric river deluge has begun slipping in quietly in the calm of the night. Surprisingly the open ended ferry still floats. 🎃

Surprisingly clear tonight as we await the “Godzilla” atmospheric rivers for the next week. Glad I live on an island.

From my chair. I love the play of light from blue to grey. Today there is a clear line if demarcation. Blue sky on one side. Clouds on the other. Blue water on one side. Gray on the other. Painting with light is my favorite kind of photosynthesis.

The rainy season has started. My personal barometer is the state of the two storm water ponds on my woods walk. The lower pond always has a little water. Now it is almost full. The upper pond dries up in July. Now it is starting to fill. By mid December both ponds will be full again.

My message was simple today at No Kings protest on Bainbridge Island. It is time for those of us who love our country and democracy to reclaim our flag. This is what peaceful protest looks like from an old dude who started protesting during the Vietnam War.
