Here's the latest book review for the DCC series, overall I'm still really into the ongoing story, but the books can drag a little & I have a sneaking suspicion things are being stretched out due to harmful reader obsession with binge-able series, rather than novels that can stand on their own ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Omen (1976) Review: Reels you in with the family drama & character relationships, with some fantastic set-pieces of satanic influence. The DNA of this movie is present in so much modern horror. Some of the effects & editing aren't great but the story & tone keep you hooked throughout! 8.5/10⭐🎥

On Day 666 of my spooky season watches, I'm finally going to watch the original horror bad boy!😈

Malum (2023) Review: Basically a shot for shot remake of the director's own Last Shift. Having all the same flaws, the story is threadbare & the pacing is messy as hell. If anything, added polish takes away from the creepy atmosphere of the original, even though the effects do look great. 5/10⭐🎥

The Parenting (2025) Review: Fun LGBT horror comedy balancing the drama & terror of trying to impress your partner's parents & dealing with a demonic presence in your Airbnb! The characters are likable plus there are a good amount of scares to keep you going if you aren't the laughing kind. 8/10⭐🎥

I managed to finish the puzzle at work and there weren't even any missing pieces! The final stretch of the black cats and cauldron was actually surprisingly difficult, but that's all part of the magic!🧩✨🧹

I've been thinking about how lovely dogs are compared to humans, and while that remains true I will say for perspective: If I got to sleep for over half the day & only had to wake up to be fed, get pets, have a run around, poop and then sleep again, I'd probably be super lovely all the time too!🤷🐶🦴

Day 4 of #SpookySeason movie nights, tonight we are watching The Parenting! Had no idea about it going in, but so far it's a really smart and fun horror comedy and I am here for it!🔥🤲

She Came From the Woods (2022) Review: Messy as the poster looks & not in a good way. The tone is all over the place, the acting is pretty awful, & the story is tired at best. Yet there is a slight charm & weird moments that stick out, it's raw & kinda fun, could be worse Tubi-fare! 5/10⭐🎥

I felt like a fool today! Waiting for the bus I thought "I'm going to check the physical timetable like a hasbeen", turns out on a Saturday there isn't a bus at that time. Halloween Horror Watch #2🎬 The Thing (1982) w/ commentary from John Carpenter & Kurt Russell It sounds so dangerous shooting in those temperatures & with all the flares, flames & explosions, to the point where Russell pranked Carpenter, getting the crew to say he couldn't film due to severe burns😅🩸

Puzzle update for the end of the day for those who are following along. Some people have clearly been giving it a go in my absence, good for them!😄

My first trip to the library canteen after a decade paid off with a lunch time treat of fish & chips, with freshly made tartar sauce! It was a little pricey, but certainly worth it for the warming meal on this wet autumn day!

Found this very pretty book on the shelves from 1881, Curiosities of Literature. It's over 140 years old, and still looking pretty good for it! The ornate gold designs still pop and the lovely pattern on the inside doesn't seem faded at all. An awesome discovery indeed!📚🦉

Okay, sensible Uber back, I sang Green Day's Waiting & Florence's King, a werid one to do in front of a bunch of 'frat boys', I'd recommend it though because they seemed too confused to be disrespectful. I then taught them how to sing along to Hey Jude because apparently that was hard for them!😅

I'm out doing the karaoke, but all I can focus on is how this sign reminds me of Clamp towers from Gremlins 2

Halloween Horror Watch Day 1🎬🎃 - Ash (2025) Review: A very pretty movie, when it's not flashing images at you. Seems to promise cosmic horror & then doesn't deliver. Tries to use time & POV manipulation to stretch a simple story, unfortunately I can't recommend, pure style over substance. 6/10⭐🎥

It's a bit smooshed, but not as smooshed as that innocent van is going to be once Ash crashes into it! It was only one day away from retirement.😢

It's been pointed out to me that I should at least attempt the whole "watch a horror movie every day in October" thing. So, with that in mind here is my first watch for the month: Ash (2025), also starting the month off right with some classic film snacks! 🎥🍿

Fantastic Four (2025) Review: Enjoyable family adventure about looking to the universe & seeing what's out there, while facing things together. Very plot-focused, the characters basically don't change. But it's certainly compelling & has some great sequences. Really for hard sci-fi fans. 8/10⭐🎥

MadS (2024) Review: Fun horror mood pieces that takes you on a ride, but you probably only need to see once. Following the characters as their world devolves into chaos is a wild trip, but it never really shifts into another gear. Still it's definitely worth a watch for horror fans. 7.5/10 ⭐🎥
