City of Calgary says crews have installed the new pipe sections and welding is taking place on the Bearspaw feeder main. Before backfilling begins, the city says the welds will be inspected and corrosion protection will be installed along the new section of pipe.

Mayor Farkas says as crews work through the night to assess the extent of the damage from the water main break, it’s unlikely there will be another update until early tomorrow morning.

Global Calgary’s Craig Momney reporting tonight that Calgary firefighters rescued 13 people from their vehicles during the water main break on 16 Ave NW. 7 vehicles were trapped in the water and nobody was injured.
