Quantifying nocturnal bird migration using acoustics: opportunities and challenges
In this study, we explore three migration intensity measures derived from acoustic recordings, that is, bird call and passage rates, and species diversity, for their usefulness in quantifying nocturn...

Birds will be arriving soon! This map shows peak migration dates across the US modeled using radar data. Keep in mind, the dates represent peaks, but migration usually plays out across a couple of weeks, so estimate Β± 1 week on either side of the dates on the map for max migration activity.

These are 5 autumn migration routes travelled by the same common tern. Heβs not the only one showing such flexibility, and it pays, because in our new paper, published by
@royalsocietypublishing.org
, we show that route flexibility is associated with minimized headwind exposure:

Wondering why acoustic indices may also correlate with diversity metrics of non-vocalizing species? Check out our new paper led by
@saskiadroege.bsky.social
with acoustic, habitat quality, and multi-taxa biodiversity data from northeastern Madagascar!
