TROPICS UPDATE: The consensus of the latest computer forecasts shows an increased threat to the Southeast coast and the Appalachians. It's not 100% by any means, but the odds have increased of a possible South Florida brush and a track north. More at HurricaneIntel.com

TROPICS UPDATE: Hurricane #Gabrielle has rapidly intensified but is missing Bermuda. Now Disturbance #2 east of the Caribbean has our attention. There is no computer model agreement, but the uncertain consensus today shows development possible near the Bahamas late week. More at HurricaneIntel.com

TROPICS UPDATE: #Gabrielle can't quite pull itself together to intensify but is forecast to be a hurricane when it passes Bermuda tomorrow. Yet another strong East Coast jet stream dip is now in the long-range forecasts, which should help turn the next disturbance north. More at HurricaneIntel.com

IT WAS 99 YEARS AGO TODAY: September 18, 1926. The Great Miami Hurricane made landfall. A giant Cat 4, it flooded downtown West Palm, severely damaged Ft Lauderdale, destroyed Hollywood, and devastated Miami and Miami Beach. The Miami News published one page by a hand-cranked press.

TROPICS UPDATE: Tropical Storm #Gabrielle is struggling but Bermuda should still watch it. East Atlantic disturbances are unlikely to develop soon, but more models show potential for development way down the road near Cuba or the Bahamas. Just something to watch. More at HurricaneIntel.com

99 YEARS AGO TODAY, the afternoon edition of the Miami News warned about the coming storm. At that time, a "tropical storm" just meant a storm originating in the tropics. They knew it was a "severe" hurricane. The forecast changed during the day. The morning Herald had said the storm would miss.

TROPICS UPDATE: Tropical Depression #Seven (#TD7) was designated by the NHC. The system is still fighting with dry air but is expected to become #Gabrielle and intensify. TROPICS UPDATE: Standing by for Tropical Storm #Gabrielle in the Atlantic. The large disturbance tagged Invest #92L now has thunderstorms in all quadrants, so it's moist enough to develop as a depression or storm soon. Plus two more disturbances in line. More at HurricaneIntel.com

TROPICS UPDATE: The Tropical Disturbance we have been following has been tagged Invest #92L by the NHC. It's likely to developing in Tropical Storm #Danielle. Odd say it will miss the Caribbean islands late this week as it turns north, but we'll watch to be sure. More at HurricaneIntel.com

TROPICS UPDATE: The large Tropical Disturbance over the eastern Atlantic is producing a cluster of thunderstorms. It looks likely to develop into Gabrielle late this week.
