Borges: The Library of Babel. "But like the characters in Borges' story, we can't shake the idea that there is some kind of order to things. And so, we spend all of our time flicking through books of nonsense, hoping that one day we'll find the book which contains the meaning for it all."

Choose your temple: How mythology can help you spend the time you have left
Nobody lives life as a single, unaltered personality. Rather, our personalities change, grow, and deepen with each day.

Christmas is an interesting study in expectations. For me, so much of what I expect from Christmas - the magic, the laughter, the thrill - is defined by five or six Christmases of childhood despite decades of Christmases since that act as a counter-narrative. I don't feel the same about birthdays.

I'd like to be very rich. I'd like to stay in nice hotels, eat in nice restaurants, and I'd like a lovely, big garden. With a water feature. But after I'd done all the rich man things, do you know what I think I'd do? Read a £10 book, cuddle my kids, and watch TV.

"We all use what Foucault calls ‘disciplinary power.’ We discipline each other to toe the line. It’s in the raised eyebrows of a friend. It’s when we gossip and giggle about somebody’s choice of outfit. It's when we choose to like one social media post over another."
