Life is weird. I get a great new job which I love and move to a super cool new city but also develop a health issue that sometimes causes so much pain that I can't fall asleep. The universe was like "let's even some of this shit out."

Don't tell anyone at my old job, but I have felt more optimistic about my future in the last 3 weeks at my new job than I did in the last 2 years at the old place.

"not smelling funny" is apparently an uncommon criteria for selecting an apartment. Either that or my leasing agents aren't used to such refreshing honesty.

I keep having to remind myself that leaving a long-time job can lead to its own type of grief. It's complicated and unpredictable and totally normal.

It's okay to cry every time you tell a coworker that you're leaving.

Trying to tie up loose ends after being at a job for 8+ is.....a lot.

Sometimes it is VERY hard to tell coworkers that you're leaving even if they understand and it's to move on to bigger and better things.

Nothing says "totally ready to move across the country" like getting into a car accident. I'm fine but my baby (car) is not.

Okay. I'm gonna do it. I'm quitting my job tomorrow. Not a joke, not a drill. I'm going to have a very professional conversation followed by an email to begin the end of my employment.

People who've moved long distances in the US (2,000+ miles), what advice do you have for me?

So, if I take this job offer (which I will unless my fierce negotiating tactics backfire and they rescind), I have to move ever so far away. Which I've done before but never with actual furniture. I have no idea how to do this.

In the job hunt, my experiences have run the gamut and I've been ghosted after interviews but I've never been ghosted AT the interview. Until now :(

I think the biggest weakness that so many museum pros have is thinking (hoping?) their workplace will act like a normal workplace with normal workplace norms. That is just....not the case.

Nothing like having to confess to a room full of people that I will show up to any meeting in my calendar regardless of whether or not I know what's going on.

I recently realized what a hit my professional confidence has taken in the last year due to *gestures at many things*. I'm committing myself to rebuilding that confidence and my poor therapist won't know what hit them.

Be careful with daydreaming those "unprofessional yet honest" conversations you know you'll never get to have in the workplace. You might become so comfortable with certain phrases that they slip out at inopportune times.

My hairstylist and I spent my entire cut time talking about unions, various ways to be a feminist menace, and handling complicated family members. It was like therapy, a pep talk, and beautification session all rolled into one.

Part of me is like "I'm under-qualified for that job" and another part of me is like "that job has been posted for a long time. This sounds like a job for bottom-of-the-barrel MuseumFolk"

If I find myself thinking "this would be a great conference presentation," I can be sure that none of my coworkers are interested in that topic.
