Two months shy of 50, I finished my first marathon today. Bucket list item—without kicking the bucket. 2am start, torrential rain, mud, soaked socks, blisters by mile 9. Sock change + body glide saved the day. Five years to get here. Hurting—but joyful.

When my son, Paxton, wanted to try karate, I signed up to support him. At 48 that was pretty humbling. When he wanted to quit, my being there kept him going. Last week we both earned our Purple Belts. You’re never too old to start something new. A little humility, effort and love makes life better.
