Update: Nature corrected their editorial and also published a correspondence from some of us objecting to the use of the term "uncollegial" to describe our critique of a problematic theory.

Does anyone know of studies that examine both 1. effects of top-down attention to, and 2. emotional content of, attended stimuli on sensory responses to ignored stimuli? I'm specifically curious whether effects of attention and emotion summate to some extent to reduce responses to ignored stimuli.
