I do wish more conferences had reliable quiet spaces though. People often say "Don't attend every single talk/session" but there often isn't really anywhere to go if you don't want to be in the main room.

One of the best things about conferences is the food, hands down. I've never been to a conference where the food wasn't at least good, if not amazing* *I don't have any dietary requirements, which I can imagine would make these situations a lot more difficult.

More adventures in getting ADHD meds and being slightly more medically complex than average: I’m having a brief meds pause, as I need to have a specific eye test. Having to have air blown in your eye to check for glaucoma is really quite strange, and while it’s important my eyes are watering so bad

I love my PhD (most of the time), but I am looking forward to a break over Christmas to read and eat and be merry, and to hopefully also make some content that I've been waiting a while to make!

It's day 5 of the meds and so far, no awful side effects 🎉 My dose goes up on Sunday so we'll see if that's still the case next week. I'm finding it slightly easier to focus and get stuff done, but nothing to write home about. I do miss my morning cup of coffee though.

It's #LGBTQinSTEM day today, and while I'm proud to be #BiInSci it brings up some complicated feelings too. I'm glad to be in a country & institution that allows me to be myself, but not everyone is as fortunate as I am.

You may have seen that some of Apple's new Macs may feature a "quantum dot display." But what exactly is a quantum dot, how are they made, and why are we putting them in computer screens? www.engadget.com/computing/la...

...because, well, "we can't Shor yet". Examples like PsiQuantum raising almost 1B from partially public sources, and then delaying their ambitious plans does not help anybody. If they fail, the general public and the policymakers would, again, confirm their suspicions that "QCs are a scam".

A super interesting article. As someone who followed the "BSD" route mentioned (albeit shorter due to UK course lengths) it's eye opening to see the kinds of paths that others have taken. We should be encouraging these non-linear paths, not making it harder for those who took them.
