Just last week did a whole class debating "what even is the definition of puffery?"

Multiple people in my family have entered hospice care in the past week. Emotionally it's been a lot, obviously, but the hospice workers are all so wonderful, and it just makes me think that maybe we all need to take some time to be kind to those around us grieving.

This whole thread is really interesting but this stood out to me, because I've done a lot of class discussion with my students debating how AI should be used in our courses, and I always find them SO thoughtful about what THEY want to learn and know how to do when they're done with a course.

My grandmother, who will be 94 next week, has had worsening dementia for many, many years. She was also diagnosed with Parkinson's last year and that's gotten dramatically worse. We wanted a wheelchair for her and asked health insurance. It was so much paperwork and taking so long, we bought one.

As I draft hypos for use in class, I realize that I tend to draft in present tense, not past. What are other people's preference for in-class hypos?

My 9-year-old niece now starts stories with, "I saw this thing. It was probably fake, it was probably AI." She's already been trained.

Important age marker has been achieved: For the first time this grading period, I had to go hunting for my reading glasses to help with the exam eye strain.

The plot of "A Sprinkle of Christmas" on Netflix is half "this woman chose a trademark infringing name for her business creating adorable, romantic consumer confusion!" and half "pseudonymous online speech is important." (My brain needed a break from grading exams and 'tis the season!)

A couple of years ago, my new year's resolution was to unsubscribe from every pointless email list I'd somehow managed to subscribe to. It was great for my inbox but it requires constant ongoing upkeep. I can't believe how quickly and easily more pointless email subscriptions build up.

I am rereading A Room of One's Own, which I haven't read since college. I am marveling at how it says it started life as lectures. Just imagining giving a presentation at a conference and it turning out to be, like, A Room of One's Own.

I bought a new house and I get an insurance discount if I install an alarm so I put a Ring alarm in. Now I realize that people are constantly using the Ring community to freak out about everything around them. I immediately turned it off. It doesn't seem like a good thing to me.

On Monday the Federal Circuit heard cases at Suffolk and I got the opportunity to sit in. It was amazing and it made me wish that everyone got such an opportunity to see what courts (who aren't Judge Judy) and lawyers (who aren't on Suits) do.

I have no children so I experience the world through my sisters' kids, and the oldest, my nephew, just started high school last week, and I have never felt so ancient. No lockers, no homeroom, no books. It's wild how much things have changed.

I am a reluctant editor, I just hate to do it. Don't mind the drafting, hate the editing. But always if I'm going to have a successful editing session, the key is to print it out and edit it by scrawling all over the papers. To me, it's so much easier to fix things on paper than on a screen.

A thing that always stands out to me when reading some statutes is how often those statutes were drafted assuming that the only people important to the statute were going to be men. Like assuming that government offices will always be held by men (like the "President's widow" bit of the Lanham Act)
