Day 30 -- Golden Hues Because of its subtle glow and warmth, so similar to that of sunlight, amber mined from dead ancient trees remains highly prized and jealously guarded by any that can obtain it who live below the canopies, where true sunlight is never seen by most.

Day 29 -- Winged Things Hadreon found that practicing his reading was much easier with an audience. Someone had to keep the doves up to date on the weekly rag, after all.

Day 28 -- Quills Inoculation against the scur infection required harvesting material fresh from the source.

Day 27 -- Heirloom Cloaks of protection were most effective if the garment enchanted with protection magic held a great amount of sentimental value; the more care, the stronger the enchantment.

Day 26 -- Crisp The centerpiece of any deep woods feast: a thick-crusted loaf of painted bread. The glossier and more needlessly sculptural, the better.

Day 25 -- Fortune Teller "Annnd BAM! Aww. Death card again. Bum luck." "Does Mom know you're doing this occult stuff?" "Does Mom know you let me drink espresso?" "...Touche."

Day 24 -- Stitched "...Now I'm SURE this is too much lace." "Listen, I think the harvest pageant is stupid but no sister of mine is going to be an under-laced Pumpkin Queen."

Day 23 -- Dormant Further north of Stag's Run, some communities of daurics were known to pass a portion of the winter via hibernation.

Day 22 -- Antlers Male beetles were often cheaper to obtain than females due to the sheer impracticality of having a beast of burden with so many chitinous points to snag on every branch and vine it passed by (among other things).

Day 21 -- The Horde First attempt at casting a "summon mount" spell was a swarming, slightly itchy success! Tally-ho!!

Day 20 -- Pumpkin Some radjurn insisted that even at an excessive scale, the only way to determine if a pumpkin was ready for harvest was with a good knock.

Day 19 -- Uncanny "Okay, what's wrong with it NOW?"

Day 18 -- Looking Glass The most irritating part about harvesting cockatrice eggs was remembering your left from your right in a mirror.

Day 17 -- Harvest Chaff for some is a full pantry for others.

Day 16 -- Reclaimed by Nature Retrieving lost explorers presented a reliable source of income for those who knew the deep woods well, if a bit of a depressing one. These tourists almost never turned up alive.

Day 15 -- Amphibian The mosquito-infested swamp really wasn't all too dangerous if you brought the right equipment.

Day 14 -- Foliage Even the mundane fauna residing in the Fallows hide behavioral quirks that only appear certain times of year, such as the common pied robin, which adorns its feathers with the brightest leaves it can find among the autumn foliage in hopes of attracting a mate.

Day 13 -- Grimoire "Can we at least take a break? My hands are tired and my ears are ringing from all the beeps..." "We can't stop now! Not when we're so close. Not after generations of wisdom passed down from our ancestors who spoke of the power contained in this spellbook. --

Day 12 -- Mushroom Houseplants in the deep woods are more often fungal than floral.

Day 5 -- Gossamer Insect wings from the depths of the deep woods made for frail quills, but far and away the best for transcribing spellwork. And they made you feel extra fancy while doing it.

Day 4 -- Acorn One of the more misleadingly-named seasonal fae found in the Fallows, the prolific thimble-sized "acorn spiders" are actually crustaceans.

Day 3 -- Specter Buy the old pig farm they said. It will be FUN they said. It's got GoOd BoNes they said.

Thank you as always for being patient with me when I inevitably go weeks without interacting here on bsky; my ability to keep up with comments/DMs etc ebbs and flows in a way that seems completely random at times and I've never figured out a way to cope other than a total reset.
