Slowly, painfully redoing a from-scratch body model I'd worked on months ago. I've practically redone it from scratch and I'm still not done... but the topology is looking better even if my technique sucks. I might be a better 2D artist than 3D now.

I think I've strengthened the neurons I dedicated to drawing just enough that I can take a short break from it. I was practicing nearly every day out of habit/addiction and now that I'm at the point where I can realistically begin doing artstyle studies, I'm letting the gray matter rest.

Witch season

I think the biggest revelation to me was something a lot of artists were saying, but in a way that I couldn't understand. They were saying that the horizon/vanishing line doesn't change with camera height. So my brain interprets that as "you can find where the horizon is by camera position".

I never expected this of myself, but now that I think about it, it makes total sense. It turns out when I see people that are better at me at something, I mimic them in my quest to become better at that thing, thus learning how to do it in the process. That's why I've been following so many artists.

There's an unremovable app on my new phone called Pixel Studio which is an AI slop image generator. Out of curiosity I asked it to generate cat girl porn and it refused. Not exactly an example of AI being useless, if anything this is the first time a corpo AI product actually did something useful.

It's obvious I need to take a deeper look into drawing hair because I clearly still don't understand what the "hair regions" actually are and where they are on the head. I think I should go back to the Loomis method since that was working a lot better, and it has a built-in hairline.

Long overdue Keira gift for @brightroot.bsky.social I didn't think of it at first, but hopping between 2D and 3D is actually a really good way for me to strengthen the brain pathways related to knowing anatomy. Plus, it helps me loosen up my poses a lot. This might work.

Oh right yeah so I've been trawling the discover page for new artists to follow and I have but ONE (1) question Who let the AI slop prompters join this site and why haven't we run them out already? Also does anyone have the link to the AI prompter blocklist by any chance.

I figured out that I draw worse when I use refs, but the trade-off is that I learn more because it eases the mental burden of coming up with a pose and frees up enough of my brain power to experiment and also to start applying some of the things I've learned from watching videos.

I'm improving on art, but I know my art style is very clinical, like I'm drawing by recipe and not from intuition. I don't expect to be at that level yet, where I can confidently sketch something instead of meticulously drawing each part. I'm sure I just need to keep going and get a feel for it.
