Some days it can feel as if climate catastrophe is inevitable. But history is full of cases – such as the banning of whaling and CFCs – that show humanity can come together to avert disaster

😰 💔My beloved canine companion Rafe has died. On the 5th of August it was unavoidably his time. It may be difficult for some to comprehend the profound depths of grief engendered by the loss of a non-human animal companion. I have been priveleged to share this special bond with him for 14 years.

We may believe we see the world exactly as it is – but as studies of optical illusions show, it’s far more complex than that, says cognitive and computational neuroscience professor Anil Seth

Just wondering (as I walk) whether anyone has ever written on the philosophy of public houses. I’m not a good candidate as I only frequent pubs in theory.

Listening to the radio today I heard a recording of Ian Bostridge (tenor) singing a solo from The Rake's Progress (Stravinsky 😃) and it was utterly sublime so I had to buy the CD with him singing (lucky find on eBay).
