Did you know a "jiffy" is a real unit of time? Physicists define it as the time it takes light to travel a distance of one femtometre, which is a millionth of a millionth of a millimetre. This was my co-author's favourite fact she learned from working on "About Time". Read more in this interview:

The 25th of November is St Catherine's feast day. "This isn't about God, the stained-glass legends of broken wheels, the barrowload of miracles, or the dinner-plate halo they will nail to your head. Under the gospel, the truth of it: woman answers back, ends up dead." - Rosie Garland

Today is the Transgender Day of Remembrance. Trans people have literally always been here; every time I see someone sneering "oh but there were no trans people when I was in high school," well. I dated a trans girl in high school, and was close friends with a trans guy.

BREAKING đ¨ The updated EHRC Code of Practice has now been sent to the Government. The Code is just as bad as we feared. It would mean a mandatory trans bathroom ban, and trans people's exclusion from public life. The impact would be devastating. But politicians still have time to stop this.

It's simple, if you throw paint on a plane then you get proscribed and any 80 year olds defending you get arrested. If you ask people to burn down hotels, and they try, you get an interview in the Telegraph and positive coverage in the BBC. That's sensible, proportionate policing.

You can tell which politics the papers support just by which marches and protests they cover. 100,000 people for trans rights? Zero coverage. Max 250 people for racism? Breathless daily coverage, multiple articles and thinkpieces, talking heads going on TV to discuss âlegitimate concernsâ.
