I went to a concert on the campus of Western Kentucky Univesity last night. These are scenes from my stroll home. Damn, I am fortunate to live and work in such a beautiful space.

Once again, I find myself in agreement with my senator, Rand Paul. Hell, indeed, might have frozen over. More people need to stand up to the MAGA autocracy.

Sam Bush performs at the beautiful Van Meter Hall at WKU, on the same stage where KISS performed in 1974. Weirdest this about Van Meter: the disco ball suspended from the ornate ceiling in the 1911 building.

We now have championship banners hanging in the Adams-Whitaker Student Publications Center at WKU, marking our 50 ACP Pacemaker Awards.

It's a double celebration for our Talisman! The Talisman is a finalist for the Multiplatform Pacemaker! This is the second time the Talisman has been a Multiplatform finalist, which the College Heights Herald won in 2023 and 2024.

Our Talisman is once again a finalist for the Feature Magazine Pacemaker! The Talisman has won 22 Pacemaker Awards from Associated Collegiate Press since its first in 1978. In 2022, the Talisman was ranked in The Pacemaker 100, the 100 most successful student media outlets in ACP history.

WKU‘s College Heights Herald is once again a finalist for the Newsmagazine Pacemaker from Associated Collegiate Press. The Herald has won 25 Pacemaker Awards since its first in 1981. In 2022, the Herald was named the sixth most successful student media outlet in ACP’s 100-year history.

And so it begins – my 27th semester and 14th year back on the Hill at WKU Student Publications. Grateful to be home at my alma mater for a job I love.

I am a seeker of facts. I dig for information from all angles, searching for evidence that supports and evidence that contradicts, facts that poke holes in a theory and facts that bolster it. In doing so, I mine the expertise of a balance of those who understand the subject in greater depth than me.

Our democracy, as we knew it, seems to have ended. Today, we are rapidly becoming some toxic stew of autocracy, oligarchy, and theocracy. What’s worse is that those citizens out there allowing this to happen don’t even fathom how much it undermines their own freedom.
