Last night in the Russian port of Novorossiysk, there was a rather vivid staging of The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells.

It was the 5th year of Russia’s special military operation to take Kyiv in 3 days, by which point Ukraine had already collapsed for the 10th time in 30 days.

I think that at this stage it is already a settled matter that the future of Europe’s security lies in a direct military, economic, and technological alliance with Ukraine + a unified European nuclear deterrent.

I think it’s the first time in human history that a country fighting a full-scale, protracted war against a vastly superior aggressor gets slammed for managing to avoid societal collapse, keeping life across most of its territory as close to normal as possible, and keeping the economy running.

Meanwhile in Russia. I’m starting to feel like the “special military operation” to take Kyiv in three days in February 2022 isn’t going very well.

It’s genuinely astonishing: Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022 began along the lines of late-Soviet large-scale land warfare: with armored thrusts and insane massive artillery barrages.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Russia is winning so much that in the fifth year of its full-scale invasion, Ukraine is supplying its weapons to the U.S. and the Gulf states.
